Features

  • CFX Stereo Sampling faithfully reproduces the sound of Yamaha's flagship CFX Full Concert Grand.
  • Graded Hammer 3 (GH3) with synthetic ebony and ivory key tops add a tactile surface to the keys, which absorbs finger moisture and prevents slipping.
  • VRM (Virtual Resonance Modeling) Lite technology makes the sound more like that of a real acoustic piano by reproducing the sophisticated string resonance of an acoustic piano.
  • Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) automatically adjusts the EQ of the built-in stereo speaker system to the player's setting, ensuring the richest tone at any volume level.
  • Stereophonic Optimizer adjusts the spatial distribution of sound in the listener's headphones, creating the sensation that sound is coming directly from the piano, rather than from the headphones.

  • Exceeded my expectations
Style: 165 Color: Black
I was anxious about this. It’s the most expensive thing I have ever bought from Amazon. Knowing it was being shipped in-state from Austin was somewhat reassuring. The dings on the outside of the box had no impact on the parts. It’s well packed, and very heavy. You need two people to lift the box (and piano). Assembly was simple. This piano more than met my expectations. It looks great, has a very nice sound, good key feel, and includes all kinds of extra features—check out the Yamaha site. Having the option of headphones is great when you have kids learning the piano. No regrets. ... show more

  • Make sure you have help with you when it is delivered, cuz it's heavy.
Style: 105 Color: Dark Rosewood
I sold digital pianos over 30 years ago. Yamaha, had always been my favorite. This model, regardless of the low price, meets every expectation I ever could have had. I absolutely love it. You'll love the sound, the feel, and even the look of it as furniture. Worth every penny!

  • Very good digital piano!
Style: S35 Slim Color: Black
I'm a professional pianist and teacher who believes strongly in the advantages of using an acoustic piano. So I didn't purchase this one to play on - I'll use my grand piano for that. But I am also a composer who uses a DAW and digital notation programs, and needed to replace my Roland digital piano after 35 years of use. This Yamaha was a good replacement for it, and I appreciate the slim design that takes up very little space, considering it has a full set of pedals and a cabinet and a full sized keyboard. The action is very decent, and that's a compliment coming from me, because no digital on the face of the earth is ever going to match what can be done on a good acoustic piano. It's like comparing apples and oranges. You can't. But Yamaha did a good job of coming as close as they could. The recording of the tone is also good (sorry, but that's what you're getting with any digital - you are not producing the tone, like you are on an acoustic, you're hearing a recording of an acoustic.) So yes, I highly recommend this digital for those who want or need one. However, for those of you who are shopping for a piano for your kids to begin lessons on, for heavens sake get the real deal and shop for an acoustic -- and Yamaha does make very good acoustic pianos as well. Speaking as a teacher of the instrument at all levels for well over a half century, I can tell you that there is simply no way to develop a good technique on any musical instrument if you have no control over the tone you're producing on it. Which is why teachers like me who teach thru the advanced levels will not even take students who only have a digital. They're going to be too limited by it. And if you want to get one for them anyhow, then get one like this, that has good weighted keys and a decent touch and action. Getting a cheap digital is a huge mistake -- those aren't musical instruments, they're just glorified toys and absolutely worthless for any serious purpose. The tense technique they'll develop will keep your child from ever getting much beyond the intermediate level, and that won't be played well. What you learn on matters. ... show more

  • Great digital piano - recommended
Style: 165 Color: Dark Rosewood
To be honest, I didn’t get chances to try digital pianos of other brands - I just found a YDP-144 in nearby Guitar Center and feel it’s good. Then I ordered YDP-165 from Amazon thinking it won’t be wrong to get one even better. Having Yamaha YDP for half month so far I’d say it’s a good decision to buy YDP-165. Pros: The keyboard and sound of YDP-165 is truly like a real acoustic piano. The key’s weight is exactly right to me — and I remember YDP-144’s key is kinda lighter but I cannot tell much difference since I don’t have chance to compare them side by side. And I even feel YDP-165’s keyboard delivers better feel than entry-level acoustic piano I have in the house of my hometown, as YDP-165’s keyboard uses anti-slippery materials which reduce the chance of pressing wrong key. Anyway, I totally have no complain regarding sound and keyboard of this digital piano. I can use this digital piano to play “The Maiden’s Prayer” comfortably - so I think this piano would be well suitable for beginner to at least intermidate-level players. The design and color are beautiful and elegant too. The compact size well fits my small apartment (even it’s not YDP S series) . Cons: The craft isn’t as good as IKEA furniture (see photos), so you may notice some tiny imperfection. Some screw holes’ position isn’t 100% accurate so it may take some of your energy to well install the piano; but these are just tiny details. After assembling the piano is quite solid. Overall, the quality of Yamaha is reliable. Unlike some models in CLP series, YDP-165 doesn’t have screen and more than a dozen of buttons on control panel. I prefer YDP’s simpler control panel because it makes digital piano more like a traditional acoustic piano instead of digital keyboard. The negative side is that it’s difficult to set up your piano. Leaning how to use key combination to set up piano is even harder than learning how to play “The Maiden’s Prayer” , so you may have to buy a MIDI cable, or spend another 50 dollars buying a Yamaha Bluetooth adapter to connect piano to your iPad. I think Yamaha should have the adapter coming with Piano for free as YDP-165 is already sold at a much higher price in the US compared to Asian market. Also you have to buy an additional 6.35mm earphone adapter if you want to connect your earphone/headphone to this piano. ... show more
