If you like exploring different sounds, this is an amazing keyboard. It has both AWE2 wavetable synthesis and FM synthesis based on the Yamaha DX7 synth from the 1980, but upgraded to new features. The only thing disappointing about the synth is the keyboard. It would have been nice to have had a weighted, piano-style keybed. For those accustomed to playing organs and synths, however, the keybed is fine. The MODX7 is essentially a stripped-down version of the flagship Montage synthesizer. However, the MODX is a far better value for many musicians, especially amateurs like me. For those who are beginners, the MODX is far too complex. Well I own a Montage 61 key and decided to get this to be my second keyboard. The sound is great. The weight is the main reason I got this. Yamaha keyboards are easy to use. It’s build quality of mostly plastic but that’s what make it so portable.

I have played keyboards for around 50 years in bands but in recent years as more of just a hobby. Started playing with a group again and most of the music has much more modern sounds so I decided to upgrade to a synthesizer this time. Have been very pleased with the thousands of sounds this keyboard has and its features which I am still learning. The group gives it a thumbs up as well.
