Description

The new FTM-400XD includes an improved GPS receiver that employs the latest in GPS technology providing faster and more accurate satellite searching functionality. These advancements will reduce GPS Time-to-First- Fix (TTF) thereby speeding up navigation and telemetry functions. The FTM-400XD uses C4FM FDMA (C4FM – 4-level FSK Modulation, FDMA – Frequency Division Multiple Access), which has been developed for the professional LMR communications. It uses this enhanced technology for a lower BER (bit error rate), resulting in stable communications without interruptions during mobile operations, even in a rapidly moving vehicle.

If you want to have the functionality of Wires-X and APRS; plus the ease of operation and configuration you usually find at top of the line rigs, take a good look at this radio. I bought one from GigaParts through Amazon. Afterwords, I found that the same radio could be purchased for much less form other local suppliers. Live and learn. Great 2m/440 radio I almost never talk on repeaters because I'm a young weirdo and don't feel like explaining Emma Goldman to old folks, but I often listen in and it's interesting. APRS functionality continually blows my mind, I love going on aprs.fi and seeing where my packets get picked up - I've had packets go well over 100 miles on occasion!     • The APRS can't be beat.
This radio has the best interface for ARPS messages. It's almost like e-mail. You might even start making APRS QSO's. Easy to hook up to a raspberry pi to download APRS packets. Programs with a SIM card. Every HAM will say you have a great radio. Plenty of power for what ever antenna you choose.

    • It is every thing thats advertised.
The instructions are typical and do not tell the whole story so I went to youtube and the set up was a breeze. Also Yaesu has its own memory program software so there is no need to buy any of the memory software. It does come with the radio to computer cable for installing updates and to program the repeater channels. I am using it as a base station so I have not used the gps as of yet. ... show more

This is a good radio for working all bands in a small package. The interface does take some time but once you get used to it it's not too bad.
