  • Better than many others have said
Color: Two Legs
Nearly all reviews for these kayak/canoe carriers complained about the tire odor and the problems using the carriers over rough ground. I just returned from a canoe trip (Old Town Saranac 145) which is a hefty 75-80lbs. It took less than 5 minutes to get the wheels on and to set the kickstand. Despite concerns about the strap, I did a quick wrap around the bow and the aluminum frame, and off we went. I pulled the canoe over our hilly, mole hole-rutted, overgrown yard to the back and only needed to stop once to have my husband adjust the position of the canoe on the carrier. So, if you have two people, you don't need to worry too much about the strap. They can help keep it centered. If there's only one person available, use the same common sense you do when strapping the canoe or kayak to your roof rack. No complaints so far, but with only one use, I can't talk about durability and longevity yet. And the tires really don't stink as bad as some folks have said. VERY happy my daughter and I won't have to do the heavy lifting from car to canoe launches and back in the future! ... show more

  • Excellent Product, One Drawback
Color: One Leg
This is an excellent product. It's simple, well made, sturdy, and economical. It does exactly what we need it to do because we often camp some distance from where we can put in our kayak. The Wistar trolley makes it simple and easy to transport our watercraft, even very long distances. There's only one drawback, as has been mentioned in other reviews, as built, it doesn't always stay put on the boat as it's being pulled along, especially over irregular terrain. A totally adequate strap is included, but installing it is another matter. There's no good way to route it to securely attach the trolley to a canoe or kayak. The solution is relatively simple. Attach strap anchors to the hinge point bolts, and route the strap through them. With the anchors installed, the strap can be tightened securely, snugging the trolley up to the hull, and at the same time keeps the arms spread. This final step makes the Wistar totally perfect. It would be a nice improvement if they were manufactured this way. The anchors are available and reasonably priced on sites like Amazon and Zoro as "Anchor Plate, 1 in. SS Pk 2" ... show more

  • Excellent Bargain Cart
Color: One Leg
I can only imagine why some reviewers say this cart is hard to load or that their kayak falls off. Loading the kayak is a breeze. I use two cam straps I already had and haven't unpacked the one that comes with the cart. With the kayak strapped onto the cart, I walked about 1 mile to the dock and had no problem with any movement of the kayak on the cart even on rough roads or crossing railroad tracks. Just as a test, I took it across a bumpy field and the kayak still remained secure on the cart. Once at the dock, the wheels come off easily and the cart fits well into the rear hold. My only criticism is that the valve stems are unfortunately short, which made inflating the tires a little tricky but I only had to support the stem from underneath with a screwdriver to attach the bike pump and ideally the tires won't need more air any time soon. This is a very nice product at about half the price of similar models I considered. ... show more

  • The tires go flat real fast!
Color: One Leg
I liked it for the ease to transport my board, had an issue about a month in when the tires would not stay inflated, purchasing tubes for the tires cost almost as much as the unit, if your willing to spend extra money then I guess it will be worth it?

  • Watch videos before you use
Color: One Leg
The first time I used this was a disaster. It kept coming lose and closing in on itself. My tips are to not use the strap it comes with and use two ratchet straps instead. Also watch some YouTube videos on this to get a better understanding of how it works best. After you do those things it will be a product you’ll be glad you have. ... show more

  • Works as expected
Color: One Leg
As people mentioned, it’s easy to slide with one strap , but I found a way to overcome it. I made two knots on the strap to tie it on the cart, and go through some strap lock on the kayak. With just one loop, it works perfectly for me. Don’t slide anymore

  • It smells like chemicals!
Color: One Leg
Works ok BUT IT SMELLS LIKE CHEMICALS. Unboxed it in my house the whole house smelled had to throw the box away and leave cart in my car. Of course now my whole car smells like cancer! I used the cart for the first time and it works BUT it's 1. A pain to center under your kayak. Its simply impossible to get it dead center, will tilt either right or left. I'm sure there is a pool noodle hack for this somehow tho. 2. It's a pain to wrap the strap underneath so the cart doesnt move around. Not a deal breaker for the price. It tows the boat fine when all is said and done, albeit a little crooked since the boat will lay to either side. Decent tires. Had no problem going over pretty rough terrain to my launch point. Not recommended for sand tho, might as well just drag it. These wheels def arent made for it but arent advertised for it either. Major flaw is by far the chemical cancerous type fumes. I was in the middle of the bay kayaking in a stiff breeze and I still smell the damn fumes on it! I rinsed it off when I came home and it STILL SMELLS. How does this come off? Seriously feel like I'm going to make deformed kids now. ... show more

  • Works awesome with a second strap!
Color: One Leg
After reading the reviews and seeing some having problems with kayak staying put. I was having the same problem, so after the cart slid out the first few times on level ground with my 89 pound Jackson. I decided to re route the strap through the center strap that goes around the stand that faces front (see pic). That worked great but would still get somewhat side ways , I added a secound strap to the back (see pic). Now you can go anywhere, as long as you have the streanth to pull your rig. I pulled my kayaka off camber over football sized rocks, and it stayed up right and on the carrier. Woud be 5 stars if it came with TWO straps! ... show more
