I do a ton of hiking and backpacking. I am always looking for gear that is durable but comfortable, and sturdy but lightweight. These shorts fit both of those desires. They have good sized pockets for your hands and 2 different zippered pockets on both legs. They fit great. They flex and they don't ride up when you're hiking or walking. They also have the added benefit of being extremely breathable and quick drying. The are the best shorts I’ve found on Amazon. I’ve tried many. They don’t fall down while your wearing them. They have nice strong comfortable elastic sections built in the waist. They fit comfortably loose in the legs. The material also has some stretchiness to it to give comfortably. 6 roomy useful pockets. Sporty looking black markings. Nice colors. Extremely minimal shrinkage if any because they’re not 100% cotton like many that become extremely wrinkled and stiff. These look ironed straight out of the dryer. I’m 5’8” 205# size 38 waist and XXL fit me perfectly. I just have to adjust to not having pockets on the butt. Has 2 regular pockets in front and 2 good size pockets on each side totaling 6. All big enough to accommodate a cell phone or wallet so there’s enough pocket space to make up for not having them on your butt, which actually makes it more comfortable for sitting. All 4 side pockets on the thighs have zippers which is nice because I’ve lost things falling out of shorts without them. Amazons return policy is unbeatable in case you need to go larger or smaller. I am very pleased with the quality of these shorts. I also like that they do not have a wallet pocket in the back. The other pockets are easy to get to and the zippers open and close with one hand. I like that! A lot of other shorts can't say that. Another plus is that the knit of the fabric is not the kind that if you have a hangnail or slight burr from something that it's going to pull a thread. My reason for the 4 stars is only because I found that the size chart could be more accurate and it resulted in a return and repurchase on a smaller size. I'll explain next. I'm 6'3", weight 280 pounds, have a 42" waist and 46" hips. I first bought 2 pairs of the 3XL size based on the sizing chart that says it's for waist size 38-40" and hips 46-48". I hoped they would not be too tight in the waist. However, I had to return them because they seemed very slightly loose and I didn't want to have them sliding down. I then ordered 2 pairs of 2XL which they say are for 36-38" waists and 44-46" hips. The 2XL fit much better, but I would say they are a bit tighter than I thought they would be after trying on the 3XL. It's not at all uncomfortable, so I am going to keep them. Maybe the sizing choice for these shorts should really be on a person's hip measurement. Since I'm 46" in the hips and the 2XL are a little tight and the 3XL are a little loose that seems to fall inline the the sizing chart. I would buy them again and I may eventually do so. Btw, I also purchased the convertible Men's Hiking pants shown with this page. They are great, too. I'll rate them next. ... show more

These are some great shorts. After losing them in the mail I finally got them. Worth the wait. They’re stretchy and fit true to size. Material feels like they should last the summer. Easy pull zippers. The only downside is no back pocket but I can live without it. Great pair of shorts!

I didn't really buy these for hiking, camping, or fishing, I bought these more for house wear and running around town. Because of that I won't complain about the missing back pocket for my wallet. My sizing. Because a 42 waist was not listed, I guessed. It was either a 4x 40-42 or 5x 42-44. I like my clothes baggy so I guessed on the 5x. The sizing guide seems to be pretty spot on because these fit me exactly like I wanted them to. They are lightweight and comfortable. I bought 2 pair. Often when I order clothes online the fit is pretty good “But for…”. But I can’t wait for warm weather to get here. The fit is perfect. The length is perfect. Very light weight and the fabric has stretch to accommodate changes in position. I cannot think of any downsides to these shorts.

    • Comfortable and they do dry quickly

They don't have a back pocket. There are pockets everywhere else. My wallet goes in my back pocket. It's not comfortable in other pockets for me and if it's not in my pocket, I'm liable to lose it. Other than my hangup on back pockets in shorts and pants, they're great.
