Really excellent set of knives. I am by no means a professional cook, but I do like to purchase quality kitchen items that will last, and these fit the bill. Pricey for sure, but very well made and I expect to have them for decades with proper care. I attached a photo of what comes in the set since it doesn’t say in the description. You get 4 steak knives, 1 chef’s knife, 1 carving knife, 1 utility knife, 1 paring knife, 1 bread knife, 1 honing rod, 1 kitchen shears, 1 knife block. There are two extra empty slots on the knife block if you want to add to the set. Nicely balanced and feels good in your hand. Wusthof offers professional knife sharpening for $4 per knife, plus whatever it costs to ship them to Connecticut. I personally think that is a great price to keep them in great shape, and it should only need to be done once or twice a year as long as you hone often and depending on how heavily they are used. I think this particular set offers the best value while still getting a good variety of knives. I would absolutely recommend these as a gift or for your own kitchen.

It's taken me many years to finally break down and buy myself a quality knife set instead of purchasing oodles of individual knives. I'm finally glad I did. These are the best knives I have ever owned. The edges are sharp and cut like butter. In many cases I do not have to exert any effort to slice and chop food. There are 12 pieces in this set as follows: - one 3-1/2-inch paring knife - one 6-inch utility knife - one 8-inch carving knife - one 8-inch bread knife - one 8-inch cook's knife (a.k.a. chef's knife) - four 4-1/2-inch steak knives - one 9-inch honing steel - one pair of kitchen shears (they come in two pieces for cleaning; originally I thought they were broken) - one 13 slot storage block (this leaves two extra slots to store other knives of your choice) They are forged in Germany from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel. Hand washing is recommended and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty. I've been using these regularly with three wooden cutting boards I purchased specifically for these knives. I use to use a glass cutting board which damages knives so in order not to damage these knives, I made sure to purchase wooden boards. Although end grain cutting boards are better, I purchased edge grain instead. These knives are a dream to work with and I highly recommend them. At the beginning I was a bit annoyed that the storage block had two extra slots, but I learned to love that feature because I am able to store my Victorinox and other knife there and have gotten over the fact that they don't match. UPDATE August 27, 2019 - Today the scissors that came with this set broke. I used them once or twice per week. I am so disappointed. I did contact the company to see if they would replace them. Other than this, I use mostly the steak knives in this set. I have had to sharpen them as is typical and they are still going strong. I also use the other knives but only about once per month because I work with the steak knives mostly. I have also sharpened the other knives about two times since I have purchased this set. I am very satisfied with everything but the cutlery scissors. Also, note that I only used those scissors for cutting herbs and not chicken bone or anything hard, which makes this an even bigger disappointment. UPDATE August 29, 2019 - Today I received a replacement pair of scissors from Wusthof. I am incredibly impressed with the prompt service.

The knives are razor sharp and feel substatial, but not heavy, in one's hand. The wooden base we received is not the one shown in the photo. It is similar, but it's the same base as we had with our previously-owned Goumet knive set, which is a step down from this Classic series. Having owned both sets, the Classic set is the way to go by far.

For years, I've used mediocre knives--or worse. I knew all the techniques. How to slice, dice and julienne, but more often than not I was just sawing my way through dinner. Recently, I decided to break bad and get some real deal, professional-quality knives. Wow! I can't put into words how it felt to slice beef paper-thin and with virtually no effort. Or peeling a tomato so finely that I could've read a newspaper through the skin. Or dicing an onion and not needing a band-aid afterward. I swear, I thought any moment I was going to hear a symphony accompanied by singing angels. This purchase was not an easy decision for me, but now I can safely say that these Wusthof Classic knives and a good maple cutting board were two of my better investments. Not only has it made my life easier, but it's truly helped put the joy back into cooking.

I bought this knife block set for my parents for christmas. less than 2 months later, the knife block has 3 separate cracks in it. all pretty large. Would recommend the knives not wusthof knife blocks

My new favorite things !!! I looked for a long time, did my research before deciding on these knives. They are the real deal - forged, full tang & made in Germany. I love them ! I have small hands and they are perfect for me. Someone with large hands may want to go with the thicker, more ergonomic handles on knives in another of wusthofs lines. Dont cheap out and get the stamped knives - you will regret it.

This is my first knife set over $150. I’m a guy and this certainly satisfies my guy need to have a bad a** knife set. Glad I didn’t settle for the gourmet series set. But it nice or buy it twice.
