I would think one could get almost too warm if wearing this outdoors while doing strenuous outdoor chores. The quality is very good. I ordered this for my fiance as a xmas gift. He is 6 foot tall and about 220 with wide shoulders and well built chest area/ torso. I was very very pleased when ot arrived; in fact, the shirt actually far exceeded my expectations. It is good quality flannel, not the type that tons of fine lint flies off of it w every move or shaking. Then, inside is lined w a thin, yet super cozy sherpa type material that also does not shed all over the place like many others on the market. Once my man put it on, he said it didnt feel too bulky like other similar type shirt/ jackets. Its like a cross between a regular thin flannel and a lighterweight jacket. The fit is a true XL, which , as many wearers of XL sizes can attest to, can be frustratingly hit and miss in most brands. It does not ride up at waist and the sleeves are not too short. It is perfect fit across chest so it doesnt gape open but instead lays across chest comfortably. Perfect for wearing around the house when its chilly and looks nice over a teeshirt. By the same token, it is perfect to wear as an actual jacket while running errands. Its rugged enough for working in yet nice looking enough to wear to a bbq or casual gathering. Also perfect to wear inside a movie theatre, where it oft times has drafts or AC. I chose the blue plaid color because it flatters his blue eyes and farer complexion. It looks great w blue jeans.
