  • Price-wise these boxes are just right for the job!
Color: Macaron Blue
Let me start by saying I am the proud owner of a "Craftsman" brand roll-around tool cabinet that I bought new and have been using daily for 55 years, so I think a comparison here is possible. Are there any similarities for these two tool cabinets? A few as it turns out: Both cabinets are of steel construction; both are completely painted; both make use of extruded aluminum drawer pulls, and both use metal-to-metal sliding drawer tracts. That's it for shared features between my old Craftsman and these "Workpro" boxes. Differences? Definitely. All bad for the Workpro boxes? Not exactly. First, my Craftsman cabinets paint was done like automobile paint; applied in layers and baked to a hard finish on the actual cabinet "frames" while the drawers received a high-grade standard spray paint hard coated surface finish, but not baked-on. The Workpro boxes appear decently finished in a light (think thin) spray paint finish. They look okay, nice and evenly applied, but I doubt it would take much to scratch the surface. Second, while both are of steel construction they are not comparable. I think I could go after the frames of my Craftsman boxes with a ball-peen and you would see some damage, but the drawers would keep right on working and the cabinets would keep on rolling. The Workpro boxes? I doubt you'd be able to ever get the drawers out of them again. Construction is not comparable. Third the methods both use for drawer slides appear to be similar. I say "similar" in that I know the Craftsman boxes have non-moving tracks that use an intermediate "sliding track insert" that mates the frames' tracks to the drawers' tracks. I don't know what kind of style these drawer slides are called, but my description is the best I can do. The Workpro boxes appear to share the idea of sliding tracks, but they don't use an "intermediate" sliding track that I could see, and when you do pull and push their drawers they do seem to move very smoothly and quietly. They don't seem to "catch" at any point in their travel or have much resistance. But honestly, it may be just a subtle tactile thing, but from the feel of using both boxes' drawers it is easy to see why the Craftsman's drawers are still "sliding" daily after 55 years of use filled with heavy tools and the Workpros feel as if they'd be pressed to last much more than a year, at best, if they were loaded in the same way. Again, no real comparison. So why did I state that the comparison wasn't exactly all bad for the Workpro boxes vs. the Craftsman cabinets? Simple. Expectations. When I bought my first roll-around I was planning to go into automotive repair. I earned a two-year college degree in automobile repair with the intent to get on with a dealership or full-time garage. That didn't happen, as I went into public transit, but the Craftsman boxes have followed me throughout my life and have been rock-solid partners all the way. The Workpro boxes were ordered recently to house the tools I most use now, in my retirement, which are watchmakers' tools. Yes, I picked up a hobby of working on, restoring and repairing mechanical and quartz watches. These boxes weren't bought for a career, rather for a way to organize and store my tools for fun and education! As you can guess, the tools a watchmaker uses are for the most part, small, precise and relatively easy to store. Enter the Workpro boxes. Whatever they use for slides, it almost doesn't matter; they're smooth and easy to use. The drawers carry almost zero weight, but they are more than up to holding what I need to keep organized and safe from getting lost. The paint doesn't need to stand up to a ball-peen attack because I won't be dropping heavy tools or parts in the drawers. Things will be gently laid into them and easily lifted out of them. So, expectations. That's right. Buy the right tool for the job and chances are they will reward you by lasting you a lifetime. Price-wise these boxes are just right for the job! ... show more

  • Tuff little tool box Tuff little tool box
Color: Pink
Very well built. drawers are smooth with stops. Bigger than the other mini's but the size I needed. cost more than the others but will last a life time. I have had good luck with other Work Pro products. Great quality for the price point. Not stack-able. I wish they were. I flipped the drawers on one and made it stack able. I used the heavy packing cardboard from the top trays and adhesive spray to keep them aligned. they don't move at all. Heavy duty little boxes ... show more

  • Fit the space I needed them for perfectly! Fit the space I needed them for perfectly!
Color: Macaron Green
I really had other plans for my Grandmother's Hoosier Cabinet, but for now, it has to serve as my home DIY storage. The WorkPro tool boxes fit perfectly to help me organize it. I did have to use two (no fault of WorkPro) to make the most of the limited space. I still need to organize the drawers, but so far, the organization is really satisfying. There is enough room in the top half, so I may end up getting another 2. I'm not crazy about the color, though it was the least offensive of the choices, and it's not god-awful. The drawers slide as well as my big tool boxes do, and I like the drawer stops so they don't come completely out. As others have mentioned, the extra feet dented the pad on the top, but turn it over and all is well. I'm happy with them, and would and probably will buy them again. ... show more
