    • Assembling takes a little preparation

So I noticed all the reviews complaining about the assembly instructions but because it was the only utility table that fit my requirements (dimensions, sturdy, holds significant weight and has wheels) I decided to make the purchase. I am happy I did. Yes the assembly was confusing but having assembled various projects over the years it only took me about an hour. My advice if you are in doubt is 1) label each part from the assembly instructions parts list. That alone will help you figure out which part your dealing with. Then label each part as to top or bottom or front or back or side. An example is the four legs have a top end and a bottom end so putting even one on upside down is a waste of time. The two side frames have a little added flange that holds the middle shelf so make sure neither side is upside down. It was not clear from the instructions. I would rate it 5 stars if only they had labeled each part with a little peel off part ID. If you want a sturdy wheeled table and you have some assembly skills, this is the one to get ... show more

I had previously purchased a Safco under-desk printer stand which I use for my HP 8600 printer. This time, I was looking for a taller stand for my larger Canon Pixma photo printer. The Canon needs to be more accessible as it involves more paper changes and has larger paper trays. Encouraged by my very good experience with the under-desk stand and the Impromptu's classy appearance, I went with it. As expected, I am very pleased. It is attractive, sturdy and moves around easily (when so desired). I would like, however, to pass along some comments/advice. Most of the reviews for this unit strongly recommend a two person set up team. Except for the initial steps, I don't think that is necessary. For those like me who don't have the benefit of an extra hand, I suggest the following. The only difficult task without a second person is the initial assembly of the two sides and legs to the back. These are steps two and three of the instructions. If, contrary to the instructions, you remove the plastic inserts on the two side panels before attaching them to the back and legs you have much more control and access. If, like me, you assemble the stand on a workbench or a sturdy card table, you can then sit and hold the side panel frames in place with your head. That's the hard part. The plastic panels can then be easily reinserted into the frames. Other suggestions: 1. Do pay attention in steps two and three to the direction of the shelf supports. (It's a pain to have to remove and reattach a side panel; I know.) 2. Do leave the screws a little loose as suggested. There is a reason. 3. Take your time and follow the directions.     • Totally worth the extra money

Well-made, very sturdy. It costs more than other carts, but you definitely get more. It looks and feels like something you'd see at a professional office or workshop. I expect it to last for many years. I got the cart for my 88-year old dad to use as a notebook stand, and he loves it. It rolls easily enough for him to move it freely around the family room, but it's heavy enough so that it stays in place when he uses it for steadying himself or for helping him get into or out of a chair. There are conveniently located holes at the back of the cart for cable management (which is great for reducing the risk of tripping over the power cord and Ethernet cable used by his notebook computer). The size is also just right -- it holds a lot of stuff but doesn't take up too much space. One relatively minor issue is that the assembly instructions aren't super clear. (My cousin, who is very good at putting things together, couldn't figure out where the last few pieces went -- it wasn't so much of an issue for me, but I've assembled a ton of office furniture over the years.) Another minor point -- the position of the middle shelf is fixed. It might be useful for some people if its height could be adjusted, or if it could move in and out (like a drawer). After reading many comments about the instructions of this printer stand, I downloaded the Assembly Instructions from Safco Website and studied them. I found that ADDING A TITLE to each of the 10 steps (9 of them numbered) helped a lot. Here they are (with a few notes): 1- BACK OF STAND - if necessary insert Back Panel (D) in Back Frame (C) 2- FIX RIGHT SIDE TO BACK OF STAND - be careful to attach the correct panel (B) - the right and left panels are not identified as such - and the FLANGES that will support the center shelf MUST be right side up!! - 1 Leg (A) with hole at BOTTOM - insert screws (J) ONLY 2/3 of the way in. 3- FIX LEFT SIDE TO BACK OF STAND - same way 4- ADD BOTTOM SHELF - (G) careful about tucking back flange of shelf behind back frame 5- FIX FRONT FRAME - (E) 6- FIX LEFT FRONT LEG - insert filler strip (F) rounded edge showing + 1 Leg (A) with hole at BOTTOM - insert screws(J) ONLY 2/3 of the way in. 7. FIX RIGHT FRONT LEG - same way 8- FIX TOP PANEL - (i) upside down on carpet, insert 6 screws FULLY (K), TIGHTEN all screws (J) 9- ADD CASTERS (2L + 2 M)- CAREFUL to put the 2 casters with stoppers in front!! 10- PUT CENTER SHELF IN PLACE ( H)- engage all 4 supports. ... show more
