I can say that wiring this kill switch is straight forward and easy enough, but I don't trust it being used on my car as intended. I do not feel comfortable with the wiring schematics with all the electronics in vehicles today I just foresee problems down the line. I have a slow battery drain somewhere in my boat’s wiring, so until I can find the fault I’ve been disconnecting the battery when I put the boat away. I got this kill switch to expedite the process, and I feel it will be good practice even after I find and fix the short. It is super convenient to have the remote hanging with the boat keys so I can just push the button rather than opening the engine compartment to flip a switch. The remote and the switch work perfectly even from a far greater distance than I ever intend to use it. I like having a spare remote, which is likely to at least double the life of this switch. I took one of the remotes apart to see what kind of battery they use - it’s a CR2016. My only complaint is that installation is harder than it would have to be. They provide two copper connectors, as far as I can tell to hook the thin wires to the battery. They are made to crimp around about a 4 gauge wire, though, so I had to improvise and use a fair amount of electrical tape to make them work. I also had to drill them out to get them to fit the battery terminal. I had to buy a short 4 gauge battery cable to complete the installation. That said, I think most people who would tackle installing a switch like this are going to be far more knowledgeable and better equipped than me to do the job, and I did get it worked out fairly easily. ... show more

I am very handy electrically. So I should not say it was an easy install, but if you can put in an AC outlet then you have the skills to install this. Otherwise get someone to assist. The kill feature works great, I want to test and see how much current it draws sitting waiting for you to talk to it. Because using this device to kill the battery power to the car can come in handy when your battery is ill or when you know you will be letting it sit for sometime before it's next use. I installed the kills only in the starter motor line for now. That way none of the other internals, such as radio loose power. Just the inability to start the car is gone. Enough for me. I'll update if I have any concerns, but the install went without issue and a great security feature to give you peace of mind, even if you only use it when you are parked in a new place and are concerned. This remote kit was super easy to install and the module can be discreetly placed out of view. I was thrilled to find it works to turn on the lights from inside the home and from nearly 100 yards away. Distance dependability for turning off the lights tends to fluctuate depending on location, on occasion requiring a 20-30 yard range instead. The remote and the really being separate is a plus to me over the ones that are confined in one. Installation is straight forward, remote works from a good distance but without a hiccup in our in the proximity of the car which is all that matters. It has some weight to it which leads me to believe it can actually handle the load rating it's rated for. (Sadly this isn't always the case like one would think) remotes are solid and give a positive feedback and audible ques to let you know you hit the button. Do you have a relative that has had their car stolen multiple times because it's a Kia? Well, I do. Turning off a battery on a modern car isn't really good for it when it comes to the run optimizations and fuel economy. But if you need a reasonably priced fix that will deter about 80% of car thieves - then this is your thing. As far as the wear and tear it puts on a vehicle, that is still yet to be determined.
