We intended all along to paint them, so for us the primer that comes on them is fine. I thought because they come in 2 colors, that they were ready to use, but they are not. Some sanding and painting or waterproofing at a minimum is required to make them look finished. The grey is easily covered by light colored paint. Good assembly instructions and all the hardware is nicely packaged. These are not as big as the chairs you see on display at the big box stores. Y'all, I've always wanted Adirondack chairs and found these that I could actually afford. I put them together in my living room, easily folded them up to take outside. It took about 30 min. to assemble each chair. It comes with the back and seat already assembled so basically you just have to attach the arms and legs and your good to go. They are sturdy and surprisingly lightweight, easy to fold. The wood is raw so I believe I'll most likely seal them before winter if I plan to leave them outside. Great buy though! These chairs are terrible. They are BEYOND CHEAPLY MADE. They are cracked, wobbly, and damaged after less than 3 months and less than 5 uses. There is no warranty on this garbage. The initial assembly is grueling. By the time you complete that, you'll have too much time invested to send them back once you realize what a terrible mistake you've made. Then. Definitely seal the pieces (about one hour), let dry 24 hrs, then assemble (about 1 hr). I assembled first but, since the wood is so soft, I’m worried I didn’t get all the nooks and crannies. My main goal was a foldable chair. The folding part is easy. They are comfortable. They look nice. I am disappointed in the creaky sounds and the softness of the wood. Several chips on the edges already during assembly. I would not buy again. Better to spend more and get a better quality chair. I needed six but started with 2.
