It is true that I have put together many furniture items and have assembled numerous IKEA or similar items over the years. This was very similar to many of those projects except for the decorative and non functional slats, which are very unlike most IKEA items. Other people have said it took them 3+ hours to construct. It took me about 1.5 hours. However, I did have a powered screw driver to help start some of the screws and my wife helped hold the top on the last few steps. I would strongly recommend doing this with another person at least for the last few steps. It will save you time and frustration. Overall, it is moderately sturdy. The length of time will depend on the abuse it receives. Like most IKEA furniture, it will last for many years of used as intended. However, since only the legs are solid wood and the rest is a type of veneered partial board, it will struggle if you sit on it or load heavy items on the moving top. But, if you use it for storage and use the top to hold cups, plates, and similar items, I can see it lasting for 10 years or more. This is not high end furniture, but it is good for the value and has reasonably good instructions and hardware. If you can put together an IKEA desk, you can assemble this.

Couple criticisms.Firstly, that build process is rough. Took about 3 hours. There's a number of steps where the build quality is troublesome. The bottom panel for example there's a step to connect the two parts together before you screw to the bottom of the center box. but the way they connect is so flimsy one side broke out due to the particle board not being strong enough for the task. Thanksfully that connection si only to make it shipable as it is fine after you screw the bottom panel in and add the dowels. So many dowels. You NEED a power drill to assemble this with a phillips head, especially for the end. You can manage with a hand screwdriver but in the end you need the extra oomph, especially to attach the top spring assembly inside the box. Another hand would have also been helpful. Also no matter how hard I tighten the side accoutrements, those pieces still wiggle. Overall the solidness is eh. I mean at 150 bucks for furniture I wasn't expecting a lot. But they imply it can fold out to a work table. You better put some heavy books in this if you want to try that and have a very low to the ground chair. The clearance of the top when folding out is maybe 8 -12 inches higher than the thing itself, Which means, No, I cannot expect this to provide a laptop table for when I am working on the couch, it's too low for that. The storage is roomy in there so at least it meets that need well. This has starter furniture written all over it. This will meet many needs okay for a college student or a person in an efficiency or even a tiny house. But certainly not "pass down to your kids" quality. it does look fairy nice once you get every letter sticker off. Instructions are nicely illustrated and clear. Parts are packaged will, but some iffy hardware. There are these really strange fasteners to the legs that screw down with an allen wrench. I have no clue why, I would have preferred phillips, 80% of the hardware is phillips but no included screwdriver I found.

Every time I assemble a lift top table, the most difficult part is installing the lift top. Some can be relatively easy, others not to easy. However, with a little ingenuity (and as you gain experience), you can always find the way. In my case, I always end up doing it by myself. The only way I have been able to do it is by working on a flat surface lined up with foam pieces to protect the furniture. Sometimes, I think out of the box and as I build, I move it around until I find the optimal position for the next step. Sometimes, I even use my feet as an extra set of hands! Or use books as support, empty boxes and so on. Either way, most lift top assembly is complicated and difficult for just one person. And this table was not easy to assemble. The width is 19.69", length is 47.2" and height 15.75". It offers quite some storage space under the top. I like the light wood finish.

I wanted to like this coffee table as I liked the lift top and storage underneath. After laborious assembly, I am not sure if I like it. The sides with the slats seems to be complete waste of space as you cannot put anything there unless you wanted to insert some coffee table books. The oak is a bit lighter than I like and would have preferred a more espresso type finish. The table overall has a small form factor so would work in a smaller home if you don't have the space.
