  • Product is very accurate
Laser was easy to install and is very accurate, excellent product.

  • Works with radial drill press; great customer support
The laser mounted too far back on my radial drill press, and the crosshairs would disappear when the workpiece was placed on the table. I emailed the seller for advice, and he responded - on Labor Day - with a couple of pics explaining that for a radial press, it's better to mount the laser on the head instead of the column. I tried that, and it worked beautifully, despite my attaching the hose clamp with the letters upside-down. In my case, the clamp doesn't rest in the grooves of the little mounting cylinders, but it's still very solid and secure. (Although it looks like it is in this pic, the mounting bracket is NOT touching the spindle.) This thing should save me a lot of time. ... show more

  • Excellent, but with one flaw.
The Wixey Drill Press Laser works very well. I had no trouble mounting it, or adjusting it to get repeatable accuracy to about 1/32". I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4 except for one annoyance. I found myself constantly forgetting to turn it off, and running the batteries down. I finally fixed that problem by replacing the two AA cells with a 3V AC-DC adapter. To do this, I had to install a suitable jack in the rear of the battery compartment and move over a few wires. (see photo). As claimed, the device can be adjusted to produce crossing lines independent of the height of the workpiece, It does so by producing two crossing planes of illumination, each approximately perpendicular to the drill press table. The “z-axis adjustment” changes the tilt of each beam to make it perpendicular to the table. However, the supplied adjustment procedure is slow and inaccurate. I have found a better way (see photos). Set the table to be about 12” from the lasers. Place a small mirror on the drill press table so that each beam is reflected upwards. Use small object (approximately 4” in height) to hold a small piece of wax paper to intercept both the direct and reflected beams. If the “z-axis” is not properly adjusted each beam will produce two parallel lines - one line is from the direct beam, the other from the reflected beam. Adjust the “z-axis” screw so that the two lines coalesce. At that point the beam is bouncing perpendicularly from the mirror. Repeat for the second laser. The whole process is very fast, and there is no uncertainty as to when the two lines overlap. ... show more

  • easy to use
Setup takes a minute but the wax paper idea below is a great idea. I installed this on a Harbor Freight 17" drill press. The laser pointer makes it easy when drill with large bits; think 2" Forstner.

  • Money Well Spent
This Laser pointer for drill press came in about five days. It works extremely well. I'm into R/C aircraft building and sometime have to drill a lot of very small holes in all kinds of material. Very precise holes. This was money well spent. I own a small Drill press by Craftman. Follow instruction on small presses. ... show more

  • excellent upgrade for pre-laser drill press
Handy, takes the guesswork out of lining it up and a fantastic upgrade for my old but good $25 garage sale drill press. Laser is sharpest at midrange, line gets a little wider at very short and very long distances (closer is better) but was not a significant issue for me since I'm limited to short and midrange anyway. Depending on how high you mount it and how close the support column is to the drill bit and where the top of the column is relative to your chuck, you might not be able to use it at extreme short distances; with the table raised all the way up for my very smallest drill bit the lines don't quite touch unless I lower the table (reducing the depth the bit could drill). Clearance could be problematic, I have roughly zero clearance between the battery compartment and the depth stop, which slides against while touching the battery compartment door but JUST works. It would not have fit my model drill had I needed the extension plate. I also wasn't able to mount it all the way up the support column because I would be unable to open the battery compartment door, had to keep it down slightly. Can't comment on longevity or if it is affected by vibration since I will be using it very infrequently. Make sure you mount it with the two round pegs both touching the column (and the plate isn't touching), otherwise it will of course not clamp on correctly and would tighten up at a weird angle. ... show more

  • Great Product, needs a little bit more info on the instructions for aligning the laser
Great product and easy to use once set up. The instructions were very vague on setting the alignment. the biggest issue was realizing the set screws on the alignment knobs are actually the Z set alignment controls, not a turn-locks for the XY alignment.

  • Accurate if installed properly
I added this laser guide to my new Nova Voyager floor standing drill press. It is a nice addition that comes in handy from time to time. It is accurate and maintains the correct position, even when the drill press table is moved up or down, if installed according to the easy to follow instructions. Many reviewers here or people answering questions above say it has to be readjusted if you move the table, but that isn't true if you just follow the instructions. It only takes 5 minutes. I'm only giving 4 stars, however, because I would like the product even better if the laser lines were 1/2 or 1/3 thinner than they are. As is, I use the laser cross hairs to get (very) close to the drill location and then dead on by lowering the bit to the work piece before turning the drill on. Also, it would be a much better product if it turned off automatically after some specified time. As is, if you forget to turn it off, it will eventually exhaust the batteries. Glad I bought it, but it could be a little better. ... show more
