  • Friend to the female undercarriage!
Style: Touring
This review will provide some insight to a few other products as well. I am a 35 year old female. I’ve had 3 children. Height: 5’0 weight: 135lbs bust:37, waist:29, hip:42. As you can tell I have quite a large hip- which doesn’t actually mean your sit bones are wide but If I had to guess, I’d say there is probably some correlation between the two… I also tend to roll my pelvis forward (something I’m working on) and tend to put a ton of pressure on the front of my sit bones, closest to my groin. Now prior to me trying those seat out, I had not been on a bicycle since a little over 1 year ago, when bought a hybrid bike (don’t know why I thought it would be easier to ride) the seat it came with was larger and (foam) padded and I still had pain but I was able to get by (probably why I chose it) The gears, however, were poor and it made it impossible to go off the concrete. Prior to that I had a mountain bike and tried every wide saddle in Walmart and still had tons of pain. I finally decided to go with a noseless seat, which definitely helped with pain and was in fact the least painful EXCEPT I had a hard time keeping myself from sliding off the seat no matter how it was angled or positioned. Keep in mind I was still riding on concrete because my behind could not handle any impact. Fast forward to last weekend… we bought a brand new women’s Trek Marlin 5, which is quite nice, I can go in sand now!! The seat it came with however had me in pain for a solid 5 days after only riding on it for 3 minutes at the bike shop parking lot. I knew I liked this bike, however, I also knew I needed to find the perfect saddle. After reading tons of reviews, research, you tube videos etc; I decided I give the “Amazon special” (Wittkop) and the widest Terry brand gel saddles a try (Cite X Gel & Cite X Gel Italia) Keep in mind, Terry is designed by a woman for women (&& men) and claim to be the works most comfortable saddle. I purchased 4 saddles total. The two Terry saddles mentioned, and the Wittkop City, and Trekking/Touring . I was hoping to keep the smallest of the least painful. I also decided to invest in some bike shorts (I went with the Baleaf cycle underwear/bikini style, which has padding higher in the front & Baleaf 5in brief with pockets). First saddles to arrive were the Wittkop. I tried the smaller of the two, the Trekking. (I was also wearing the both the bikini and brief for double padding because last experience had my butt terrified.) We test drove on lime rock roads; like bumpy concrete. After 3-5 minutes I was shocked to find that not only could I keep going, but went back to the truck to ditch the 2nd layer of padding (Baleaf brief). I rode 8 miles & I never tried the city Wittkop. The next day I decided to purchase from REI women’s padded link liners briefs. They are a 4 inch inseam, slightly shorter than Baleaf briefs but the padding comes up further in the front like the Baleaf bikinis and are meant to be worn under a different pair of shorts and not AS the shorts (which I like). I prefer the look of running shorts rather than bike shorts, thus, I will probably get the most use from the REI link padded briefs and the Baleaf cycle underwear/bikini. 2 days later we headed back out, this time to the forrest. We brought along the Terry Cite X gel Italia and Wittkop trekking/touring seat. 1 minute in, I knew the Terry saddle was not going to work. But I still rode 2 miles (very uncomfortably) to give it a fair shot. The Terry Was not nearly as shock absorbing as the Wittkop. Switched the seats and I road another 6 miles, on bumpy Forrest trails. The amount of relief I got after switching the seats told me I had found the one. The Wittkop is about $27 cheaper than the Terry also! I highly recommend the Wittkop trekking/touring seat and BIKESHORTS!! I imagine that after regular riding I may be able to forgo the shorts, BUTT UNTIL THEN….. ... show more

  • Comfortable
Style: Touring
I ride up to 100 miles per week on rough mountain trails. This seat is very comfortable with plenty of cushioning which helps relieve pressure that the bicycle shocks miss. This is the touring version of the seat and not the mountain bike version. The slightly wider seat for me is more comfortable. I can ride 25 miles on this one with the same comfort as a 12 mile ride on my old seat from a different company. The ergonomic relief on this seat is great. ... show more

  • Some good, some not so good with this seat.
Style: Touring
Good: at least partially thoughtful design, nice appearance. I like the the level of friction in the seat covering. Not so good: as others have noted, the memory foam is pretty stiff. The mounting structure of the seat limits your ability to tilt the front of the seat up, even to level, and I would like it to move back farther than it allows. While I like the covering material in terms of texture, it is fragile, my bike tipped over and the seat got a small rip in it from hitting the ground. The seat that came with the bike was tougher than this. I want to like this seat. This is the "trekking" version and it definitely positions me in a more upright position than the factory original seat, mostly because I can't move it back as far. I have ridden with it a couple of one hour rides. It is not as comfortable as I hoped, but is a tad better than the original seat. I hope we will adapt to each other. If the padding was a little softer and the mounting rails were longer and angled so you could raise the front of the seat a little more, and the covering was a little thicker and more resilient, I would like it a lot better. Update 3/31/2025 - After a few rides with this seat, I rode on different bike that has a different seat (factory issue) that I used to think was OK in terms of comfort. I hadn't been on that bike in a year, and I found the seat on it to be uncomfortable to the point of being painful, even after several rides where I thought I'd get "used to it". My explanation for this is that the seat that is the subject of this review is enough better that the contrast is very noticeable. I would still prefer to be able to slide it back more and raise the front of it a little, but my opinion of it as-is has gone up a notch based on this comparison, so I am elevating my rating to 4 stars instead of three. It does not cause the pains of the seat on my other bike, even on longer rides. I was able to repair the small rip mentioned above with a dab of black "liquid electrical tape", which I believe is a form of vinyl. It is compatible enough with the seat covering material that the rip is not nearly as noticeable now. ... show more

  • AWESOME SADDLE!!!!
Style: Touring
Why did you pick this product vs others?: It had really good reviews. Pressure relief: This is the most comfortable saddle I’ve used. Highly recommended. Great for long rides with no discomfort.

  • Bumps Where There Shouldn't Be Bumps
Style: City
This saddle was better than the last one I tried, so I can see where some might like it. But I found that there were bumps in places there ought not be bumps. It seemed like an unnatural, uncomfortable way to sit.
