  • Guitar plays fine - packaging for shipment is absolutely terrible
Size: 39-inch Color: Glossy-Brown
I received my guitar in a timely manner, UPS. Came home to find this almost destroyed box on my porch. Tears in the cardboard, crushed in a bit here and there, skimpy on the sealing tape, thin cardboard. It's a good thing the padded gig bag was around the guitar or it might have been destroyed. The guitar was also wrapped in that thin white foam they use, and the strings were wrapped with thin recycled paper, a total waste in my mind that is labor intensive. Should have put the money in the box! I removed it from the box, took off the thin foam, the string paper, cleaned it up, tuned it up, unwrapped the battery, put the battery button back in, (see below), and let it sit overnight to let the strings and guitar get used to my house. Unfortunately, next morning I discovered a dent, flat spot on the very top of the headstock where it had hit something while in the box during shipment. It plays fine, and since I repair guitars as a side retirement business, I went back and forth and decided returning it was more hassle than fixing the dent and the chip in the finish. If I was just a player and not a luthier, this would be going back for sure. It will take me about one hour to fix the finish, so I will keep it. By the way, I think it has a very nice sound, considering this thing is sapale plywood. Butterfly rosette is a bit cheesy, just a decal, but I can live with that. High E tuner is a bit stiff, will look into that. Overall for the price, I like it and wanted a knock-around the house classical, this fits the bill well. This would be an outstanding beginner unit, save the body is a bit deep for smaller players. The electric portion is intriguing, I plan to plug it up soon and see how much that piezo under-saddle feeds back and what it sounds like. As with a lot of lower end classicals, no strap buttons anywhere. Strictly a sit-down and play guitar. Thought they could at least put one on the bottom, so you could put on a strap and shoe-string it around the headstock side of the nut, but no. Considering it is classical electric, people will want to play this standing up. The guitar is a nice value for the money, save the strings are junk, but that is pretty much the norm, and I bought a good set of nylons in the same order. Just be warned, the strings are no-name, fluor carbon with Low E, A and D being silk wrapped. They stay in tune fairly well as classical strings go, but the G, B, and E are just stretching at strange and ridiculous amounts. I expect to have to tune up a classical every time I play it, but these are just junk. Get a new set of nice nylons as soon as you get it, or when you buy it. As a final note on the equipment, it comes with a cleaning rag, (worthless add on), a cheapo cord, and a tuner. Concerning the complaints on the tuner: These units depend on receiving vibrations from the headstock where most players mount the clip. This means that the vibration has to make it through the swivel ball which is integral to all these types of tuners, like Snarks. This one, the little ball joint is not that tight, not as well made as others I've used. I'd say that the people having trouble getting a reading on their tuner have a loose ball joint connection on their tuner. Mine had two loose spots, probably due to poor injection molding. I found a couple tight spots where the ball is making good connection with the main tuner, and have had absolutely no problems with my tuner. It's not a Snark, but it works just fine, as long as you make sure your ball joint is tight in the tuner. To turn it off, just hold the button in longer, and it goes off. Nice add-on, the tuner is good for many stringed instruments, and is also chromatic. The main and only button will toggle through the different instruments, including chromatic, where I leave mine. Screen turns green when you are in tune, blue when not. The packaging, oh my, is nothing more than one thin box, that angled guitar shaped box, with the tuner, cord and cleaning rag stuffed in a nook inside the box, not even in the bag. Miracle they were still there. This is a pretty good deal for a decent classical, but the packaging is about as effective as a garbage bag. Thank heavens for that padded gig bag...or I am certain I would have had more damage. One last thing, it came through with a lot of little white particles all over the guitar. And the battery check button was falling out, but when I put it back in it clicked into some position and it now stays in and works. I have not plugged it up yet, but the battery, after taking off the cello wrap, seemed to work fine and the battery check light now works well when I push the battery check button. All this could be avoided if they just put another dollar into a thicker grade of cardboard on their box and a little more packing tape. Two stars off for shoddy, cheap packaging that will not stand up to what was a simple two day delivery. UPDATE: I own a Fender Acoustatronic amplifier, so I decided that was the best choice for this guitar, since it is merely a piezo pickup under the saddle. I am pleased to report that the unit, although it doesn't sound exactly like a classical through the amplifier, does work well, the controls on the pre-amp on the side of the guitar work well, and it didn't feed back anywhere near to what I thought it would. I would guess that the nylon strings are more resistant to harmonics than a set of regular acoustic steel strings. It had a pleasant sound, little light but by adding bass and treble on the pre-amp, and lowering the mid, putting the presence in the middle, I was able to achieve a very nice tone that worked really well for fingerpicking. Adding back a star for good tone through an amp. ... show more

  • Great Guitar! But Missing Accessories
First of all the reasons I deducted a star: 1) The guitar box inside the shipping box. was pretty beat up. the outside box was not damaged at all, so I must conclude that the inner box was damaged from the start. 2) There were no accessories in the box. I unfolded everything and searched each corner of the boxes nope. No accessories. Otherwise this would be a five star review. The guitar itself is great! I was very pleased to find that it was not damaged, in spite of the condition of the box. The pictures of this guitar do not do justice to how nice it actually looks. It really is a beautiful looking guitar. Of course, as is to be expected, it did take a couple days to get the strings properly stretched. This is normal with ANY nylon type guitar strings. Just be patient and expect to retune it a LOT during the break in period. Once the guitar and strings are settled in, the tuning is really quite stable. Just a little touch here and there to keep it at pitch, Playability? Normally I would expect to do a little set up work before a new guitar is fully playable. This one is quite playable right out of the box. I am sure I will do a little custom setup work of my own sometime down the line, but for now the factory setup is working well for me. One thing that I can attest to is that the neck is very wide. I figured that a wider neck would be better for my fat stubby fingers. It is better with the wider string spacing, but shorter fingers might have trouble reaching all the way across to the low E and A strings. So how does this guitar actually sound? Pretty good, really. I have not yet plugged it in, but I made a test recording using live mic's and was impressed with how good it sounds. Good mid and low-mid definition without sounding muddy. The high-mids and upper harmonics are just a touch weak, but that is most likely because I am using the factory strings....which in most cases are not usually the best strings. Get some better strings. Once everything is settled in, change them out. It is sure to improve the overall sound...even if the initial sound is not that bad. Overall, I would definitely recommend this guitar to a friend, or anyone looking for a decent deal on a budget priced Classical guitar. There are less expensive ones out there to be sure, but value for value, this one hits all the marks for me. It took me a long time to finally settle on which Classical guitar to buy. I am glad that this was the one I finally ended up getting. No regrets here. ... show more

  • Great bargain guitar for beginners and people trying to pick up an old hobby.
Size: 39-inch Color: Glossy-Brown
Hands down a great purchase for anyone wanting to learn guitar. I have about 12 years of playing experience and this guitar definitely holds up to some of the more expensive ones I've played in the past. Only problems are packaging could be better and due to it having a built in pick up, there's some buzzing when you play due to the cables within vibrating but that's an easy fix with some tape or some putty. *9/10 definitely recommend.* ... show more

  • You get what you pay for?!
Size: 39-inch Color: Glossy-Brown
I have some years of experience playing so I would not call myself a beginner. I own so very fine guitars including a fantastic steel string acoustic. I wanted to dabble in Flamenco but did not want to spend a lot and I do not have nylon string classical guitar. Before this came I accidentally ordered their steel string- I guess I was not paying enough attention and wound up with the standard green colored acoustic. It was truly awful perhaps the worst guitar I have ever seen! At $150 I wasn't expecting much but it felt like it was made out of balsa wood and the color seemed to be an applique of contact paper. It of course sounded and played as awfully as it looked. So when the nylon string classical came I had already arranged to return the other "instrument". I was very pleasantly surprised by their classical guitar. It sounded decent played well and was heavier more solid and far better crafted than its steel strung cousin. All the added stuff, the pick ups the EQ and the tools were really a nice touch. I could see a 20X profit margin on the steel string. I think this one is a far better value and I am very satisfied with everything about it including the craftsmanship. I would have to guess it comes from a different factory! ... show more
