Description

Winsor & Newton have been producing Designers Gouache since 1935 and to this day we continue to offer the finest artists' gouache range available. Designers Gouache colors are a range of opaque water colors, mainly used by designers, illustrators and commercial artists to create vibrant illustrations in solid color. Gouache is also widely used in fine art as an opaque water color. Today the Designers Gouache range benefits from significant developments in technology and is smoother, flatter, more opaque and more brilliant than ever before. This introductory set is ideal for designers. • Very smooth
Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
Paint quality matches no other that I’ve tried. They are smooth, mix well, paints evenly, and dries quick enough but not too quick. I am definitely going to buy more from Windsor Newton. They work extremely well.

  • Great Winson & Newton Designers' Gouache Paint
Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
I bought this primary set for a class where we were painting gouache over a watercolor background. I chose these because they are Winsor & Newton Designers' Gouache and professional quality. This was my first time using gouache and I found that they applied and mixed easily as expected. The mixing is quite fun as gouache, unlike watercolor, used white and black to lighten and darken value. I did notice that they dried fairly quickly on the palette, which I assume is common with gouache paints and they can be reactivated but will not be full strength. I enjoyed using them and am pleased with the resulting painting. ... show more

  • Did research, this is THE BEST
Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
Did a lot of research to make sure I was doing a good decision because I am new to gouache. A lot of people on Reddit recommended this brand, and strongly advised against jelly palettes. This product is soo worth the money! THE PAINTS ARE SO PIGMENTED! New to the medium, but I can’t imagine painting with cheap unpigmented paints that the other brands have to offer. This is not a medium you should cheap out on! ... show more

  • Nice, thick paints where a little goes a long way
Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
I bought these a bit reluctantly after having some bad experiences with other gouache. The paint is very thick and a little goes a long way. The paint glides on so easily, it’s not difficult to prevent it from getting too watery and transparent; but also works very well for layering. Would highly recommend! ... show more

  • White paint dried out
Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
The paints are great to use - high quality and beautiful hues, but the white paint was dried out and difficult to thin, even with water mixed in.

  • Great gouache
Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
I just simply love this gouache brand! I purchased de primary set and added opera Rose and burnt sienna. These are gorgeous! Vivid and super flat colors! Winsor and Newton is a win all of the time!

  • Very opaque!
Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
So, little disclaimer here, I'm new to gouache. (Literally started using it five days ago.) I previously bought and have been using Reeves gouache to play with until these arrived since they were cheap AND on sale. There are HUGE, noticable differences between the two. Yet I love them both. Man oh man, I thought the Reeves was bright, these outshine them 100%! Pros: -They're very opaque, and cover well. Even light over dark. -They dry fast. -They mix well. -They are chocked full of pigment. -They don't lift off each time you try to add another layer (*cough cough* Looking at you, Reeves.) Cons: - The white loves picking up the other colours if they're still slightly wet. -They have an odd smell. Especially the green. -They will stain plastic pallettes, I advise a ceramic plate or pallette instead just to be safe. Y'know, unless you don't care if it stains it then don't worry about this flaw! -Maybe this one is my brushes, but I used different types and got the same result. The paint just loves staying in the brushes! Make sure to dab them off on a tissue just to make sure all pigment is out before switching colours. I did not however have this problem with my water brushes. (Niji and Pentel.) That's about it, honestly these paints have already made a huge impact on my life and I just got them today, lol. I hope you all take the plunge and buy these! They're worth it. Woooorth it! (Though if you can't afford them, definitely buy Reeves, they're not as bad as people make them out to be, you just can't go as heavy with them, you gave to use them more like a watercolour.) ... show more

Style: Primary Set 6 x 14ml
I've had these for a year now and have used them on several projects with much success. I experimented with cheap gouache to practice and loved the properties of the medium (opaque to layer easily from light to dark and back again, ability to cover mistakes and easily rework areas, and the ability to go back with white gouache to add highlights). They are much like watercolors but much more forgiving. The cheaper gouache, although came with more color range, was very chalky, difficult to blend, and it was extremely difficult to get a uniform wash of color over large areas. I have not experienced any of those negative qualities with the Winsor and Newton Gouache and have merely enjoyed using them. They are very smooth to work with, lay down smoothly, blend and layer well, and are not chalky at all. This primary set comes with all the colors necessary and with practice, patience, and maybe some help from the internet you can even achieve flesh and earth tones. Highly recommended. ... show more
