A great split palette of colors made up of three primaries, three warmer versions, a green, a brown, a black & white. The gouache is very saturated, pigmented, creamy & opaque. Knew it was too good to be true that the Designers gouache would be so inexpensive. Turns out it's because it's not the professional Designer gouache at all, but is actually their student grade gouache. They should relabel this item completely. When I squeezed some out, there was a bunch of binder that came out. I'd expect 30 dollar gouache to be better combined than that. ... show more

This is fine as a student grade but it is not the designer gouache that W&N makes as advertised. This is misrepresented.

    • This is NOT DESIGNER's nor ARTIST Grade Gouache
For $30.+ (33??) supposedly and being marketed/advertised/described as "Artist Grade" W&N Gouache, it is WEAK and even VERY EXPENSIVE!! This is like a "thick" or "semi-transparent" or "semi-opaque" Watercolor. This maybe good just for practice. But I wouldn't pay more than $20.00 for this set. Regular price at Michael's for the same set is $19.99 and currently ON SALE for $13.99. Michael's Art's & Crafts Store is often EXPENSIVE, so for this price ($33.+) is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced!!! I wouldn't give it a one star just for price alone. I have not tested the Lightfastness of this Set ye!; I very much doubt this is an Artist Grade. As comparade to the W&N Designer's Gouache....ummm, this one is VERY WEAK. It doesn't move as much as the Designer's W&N Gouache. I'm not sure what this set is🤷♀️. I prefer painting regular W&N Cotman Watercolor or W&N Student Grade Watercolor than this set, at least they behave like a Watercolor "should". Perhaps one way to make a Cotman behaves like a Gouache Opaque is simply add White Gouache on the Watercolor. More cost effective that way than paying $30+ for this set. I love Winsor & Newton products. But I'm not sure what this is. Very disappointed. 👎👎👎👎👎 If this set is less than $15.00 perhaps I can give it a try to recommend. But for over $20.00...NO! You're better off investing on W&N Designer Gouache. Or for Student Grade doing practice painting, you're better off getting the Himmi Gouache Set or the Artiza Gouache Set.     • Cheap student quality paints
These are not Drsigner Winsor and Newton gauche paints. They are cheap, so incredibly transparent that you cannot paint with them. If you want paints like these, you’d be better off going to Michael’s and getting the cheapest beginners acrylics than these. Horrible paints!
