  • Great alternative for those starting out with oil paints!
Style: Tube Set 20 x 0.4-oz
So far these have worked out very well for me. I’m still working on this first painting, but I will share it here. I use meat packing paper as my palette. It’s waterproof, so it works out well and makes for easy clean up. I painted the first layer in acrylic and it was fully dry. When squeezing out the paint, oil comes out first, but then highly pigmented color comes out. It’s very mixable, not only with water, but with all the other paint colors. It would be great to have two tubes of titanium white in the set. You only need a very small amount of paint, so this set will last a while for smaller painting projects. There is a slight odor. I used Dawn dishwashing liquid and water to clean my paint brushes. That may be a bit harsh over the long term. The paint was still drying when I took a break from working on this painting. I will be going back to it and adding and revising. I’ve only used traditional oil paints once before. This seems like an excellent alternative. Happy Painting! ... show more

  • Fantastic set of beginner friendly oil paints in a nearly complete range of colors
Style: Tube Set 20 x 0.4-oz
These paints behave like traditional oil paints and are nearly as pigmented as the artist's grade traditional oil paints by W&N. They definitely seem more pigmented than the Winton grade. There's an issue with extra oil being in some tubes, and some tubes not being 100% filled upon arrival, but none were tampered with, it just seems to be filling issues. Still, the paints perform wonderfully and this set is great for beginners. The tubes are SMALL, less than 1/3 of what a normal small tube contains. The color selection is very good; you get warm and cool versions of green, blue and red, but only one real yellow as the warm yellow is very orange heavy (cad yellow hue). You will run out of white before all the rest for sure. The earth and skin tones are rich but the selection is not full so keep that in mind if you want to do portraiture. Color selection is mostly missing Burnt Umber, Van Dyke Brown, Sap Green, Prussian Blue, Mars Black, and a Warm Yellow like Winsor Yellow but you've got everything else you'll ever need. The paints dry a significant amount of time faster than standard oil paints, most are touch dry within 36hrs. The paints are a bit stiff so always work lean to fat; add in turpentine or water-mixable solvent (or water) and gradually add more water mixable medium (I use fast drying medium) as you add more layers to the painting. Washing up is a breeze, but if you use solvent, as you should be, the paints will leave behind some sludgy residue inside the deep bristles of the brushes which can harden and bind the bristles if you don't wash it out so you'll need Masters Brush Soap to fully wash them out at the end of every session since these paints will not fully dissolve into solvents like traditional oil paints do. Ultimately if you want to avoid toxic solvents, want water-washable paints, and want something with the rich chroma and varied hues of oil paints but with faster drying and less expense, give these paints a try! P.s. the French Ultramarine is particularly good. So good that I ordered a 200ml tube to keep on hand because it is better than most brands artist grade versions at a tiny fraction of the cost. It's not as good as W&N artist grade french ultramarine, but it's literally less than 1/3 the cost. ... show more

  • Excellent Water Soluable Oil Paints.
Style: Tube Set 20 x 0.4-oz
These water soluble oil paints are wonderful. The colors are vibrant and the consistency is excellent. Very versatile; beautiful and smooth for heavy application - or can be applied with very thin layering using either water or linseed oil. Easy cleanup. Highly recommend.

  • Excellent Paints Once You Understand How to Use Them
Style: Tube Set 20 x 0.4-oz
I’m very impressed with Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Paints. The color quality is strong, the consistency is smooth, and they give you the look and feel of traditional oils without the need for harsh solvents. They are especially great for artists who want oil paint effects but prefer easier cleanup. I do think some people may be misled by the “water mixable” part. Yes, you can thin them with water, and water is very helpful for cleaning brushes, but I don’t think water alone gives the best painting results. If you want the paint to feel rich, smooth, and behave more like traditional oils, using the proper Artisan medium makes a big difference. Water can make the paint feel a little dull or less pleasant to work with if used too much. Once you understand that these are still oil paints and benefit from a good medium, they are excellent. They blend beautifully, have strong pigment, and are perfect for artists who want a safer, more convenient oil painting experience. The cleanup is much easier, but the final look can still have that classic oil paint depth and richness. Overall, these are high-quality paints and a great option for anyone interested in oil painting without traditional solvents. Just don’t expect water alone to do everything—pair them with the right medium and they really shine. ... show more

  • No toxic odor and very beginner friendly!
Style: Beginners Set 6 x 1.25-oz
I’ve been a painter for a long time, but always very intimidated by oil paints. My favorite artist said she used these, so I immediately purchased to try them out! OBSESSED. The colors are so rich and opaque. They mix well and go on smoothly and thick if you’d like. Doesn’t take nearly as long to dry as regular oils, and there’s no odor! I love being able to blend on the canvas, it makes painting skin especially so much smoother and realistic. ... show more

  • Great buy
Style: Tube Set 10 x 1.25-oz
Pros: 1. Watermixable so no solvents or toxics required 2. Can be mixed with traditional oils (but no lo ger mixable in water the new mix) 3. The pigment concentration seems more intense than Winton series but less than Artists series Cons: 1. Some important paints are missing like raw umber 2. The densisity is less creamy (I like the standard cremosity of Winton) 3. Is much more harder to drag the paint in the canvas compared to winton or artists you need more paint Overall is a great buy, I would wanted to have other colors but... ... show more

  • Good Quality Paint - Easy Clean-up
Style: Tube Set 10 x 1.25-oz
Previously I had used regular oil paint that requires solvent such as turpentine for clean up. With the water mixables you clean up with water. Art class that I recently started requires the use of the water miracles. They are much easier to use and act pretty much like traditional oils without the smell of strong chemicals. I recommend these paints as an alternative to traditional oils. ... show more

  • Gorgeous rich color that is so simple to use!
Style: Tube Set 20 x 0.4-oz
I haven't done anything with paint since junior high 45 years ago. I heard about water soluble oil paint and thought it sounded interesting so I purchased this perfectly sized sample set. Long story short, I'm in love and have found another hobby to add to my day. The first small squirt out of the tube is all oil (I read some reviews complaining about that but I believe it's normal). After that, pigment-rich color is what you get. The thinner I bought from the same company is perfect for removing any clumpiness in the paint. I opened some tubes and did a small quick painting to just get a feel for the colors, how they mix (I'll def need more white soon) and how to use the thinner. The learning curve is not steep and I can't wait to see how much I improve with each piece of artwork I create. Oh, and I almost forgot one of the best parts. Clean up is ridiculously easy with just water and a tiny bit of soap. Like, watercolor easy. So these water soluble oil paints are truly the best of both worlds and I'm thrilled I found them, especially since I'm not a fan of watercolor (too easy to ruin a piece with a mistake) or true oil paints (stinky and high maintenance). ... show more
