  • Needs tuning out of the box, only then is it a nice solid vise.
Let's talk about this vise. I purchased this on an Amazon Warehouse deal for about $20 less. Vise arrived in good order nothing bent or scratched just the product box was ripped to shreds the shipping box was fine. About that tuning, the jaws were misaligned vertically and horizontally so there wasn't a flush fit left to right nor top to bottom. This was fixed by some careful file work and a small copper shim ( thin wire from a motor winding i had ) allowing for the jaws to come together flush and even. I'd guess they were off by about 1/2 mm left to right and probably close to 2.5 mm from top of jaw to bottom causing a pinch point. The swivel base came well lubed and adjusted smoothly and lock down is positive and secure, well done. You'll need to pull the spindle and smooth the casting where the spindle frame rides on the vise frame, this is rough casting on rough casting and a quick clean up and some grease really helps. The spindle on my unit was for all intents dry of lubrication perhaps a light coat of something like three in one oil, you'll want to grease that too. It comes rough, minimal lubrication and out of alignment. It'll take you about an hour of relatively minor tuning and this thing will work smoothly and accurately. What you're not paying for up front is the hand finishing... you can do a lot of it yourself and end up with a nice solid vise. ... show more

  • Good Affordable Vise
I've used a lot of this exact style vise at work. For the money they are hard to beat even if you destroy them in several years. We have used one in an outdoor welding shop onboard an oil rig for over a year now and it gets used and abused every day. I doesn't look pretty and might be a little sloppy, but it still holds things tight. We have another one inside an engineering workshop and it is holding up very well. Gets used daily for hard projects! Now I'm sure you can get a bad one now and then, but for me, the abuse I've seen offshore makes it plenty good for my shop at home. I bought this one for the house, showed up in 4 days in a nice box from the MFG without a scratch or dent. Don't think about it...just buy it. ... show more

  • Strictly an at home homeowners vice
I broke it. It will not take any abuse. I had a project and it needed some abuse and this vise was not able to handle the problem

  • A beautiful beast for my work bench
Very well built and very heavy in a good way. Such a beast! I like that the unit is enclosed and protect from dust. The hardware was hard to find I wanted to be installed properly as it will be there for years. Props to broward bolt for hooking me up with the hardware. 5/8 in grade 8 bolts. Use smaller washers on top and regular washer with lock washer on bottom. A great addition to your work bench. Buy something good as it will last for years ... show more

  • Good shop vice
It's a good vice for the Mechanic shop. Comes with table template. Uses 5/8" 11 bolts for mounting. You can tell from the action on the swivel and jaw opening/closing that it's cheaper/Chinese, it's not as smooth or precise as a USA Wilton. The jaw plates are slightly misaligned also. For the price it's a great vice. I will update after using it for a month. 06-14-2018. ... show more

  • Good Wilton quality, but not USA made
For the price this is vise is much better that ones at the same price in the big box stores. The pipe jaws do a great job of holding black steel pipe that is being threaded without slipping.

  • Wilton can't be beat
The vise came to my front door very fast and with free shipping (can't beat that). This sucker is heavy (50 lbs.) so be careful putting it on your bench. It has a thick beefy jaw that grips on anything you put in it. It will hold to any piece of material up to 3.5"with no problem. Any more and the jaw starts to drop down. Complete with a template for mounting and full instructions. It does look better than the picture, a hammered blue finish with the name plate on the right. I already have used this for some big project and I'm just amazed how well it grips and doesn't move bending metal up and down and side ways. ... show more

  • Heavy Cast Vise
Bought this to replace my old 645 which was American Made of Steel, because I misused it and broke the spindle, No replacement available. This one is Chinese made and is out of Cast. It is much heavier than the old one, but doubtful if it is as strong. However, it seems to be very adequate for the use it is intended. ... show more
