We brought this for our aunt who is in a nursing home and was having a hard time hearing. The case mgr had one that someone gave them and wanted her to try it out. She loved it so much I brought her her own. Now the TV isn't on blast and at a normal volume.

    • Quality sound amplification but expensive and needs replacement mic and mono headphones
I've bought many of these for my mom over the years, after wasting tons of money buying hearing aids that she kept removing and losing. It works great. The headset is great. The electronics are great. Batteries last forever. It's easy to use. BUT. BUT. BUT. Why a MONO jack? It's so hard to find replacement mono headphones!! And headphones are easy to lose in a care home. Please, Williams, make a stereo version. It's so much easier to buy replacement stereo headphones. And we need replacement microphones too. I don't know why my mom removes it and loses it. Better, make a version with a built-in microphone! (Although I do appreciate the value of being able to put the mic at the end of a long cable. Bluetooth would be nice, I wouldn't want to pay the price.) I have tried the competitors, but they are really a waste of money. I guess I'm stuck with Williams until a quality company makes a competitive item. But $179 is robbery. You can buy an awesome 4 band CCrane radio for that price! This is just a tiny amplifier. What? A few transistors, capacitors, and resistors? Pennies! It's a market niche for some good analog electronics company to exploit. It must cost nothing to make these. ... show more

I bought these for my 89 year old dad as he has lost almost all his hearing I have bought so many hearing aids and amplifiers and either sent back or was out of money spent I was just looking and talking to my dad and he ssk if they made this type like years ago so I started searching came across these the reviews were amazing but still you just don't know to believe and I was really gun shy about being disappointed for my dad. Well we just received them today and let's just say I was in tears at the look on his face when he could here me and understand me without screaming. Me my husband and my dad sat on the patio and had a conversation for an hour my husband put on some old music he used to love and he just sat there with a smile on his face. I can't thank you enough for giving my dad back to me you have no idea the blessing you have given us. The most unbelievable part is he can hear with it on the number 2 setting which gives to show just how great these are. However he would prefer the earbuds that go inside the ear rather than sit in the ear opening and with the ability to have one in each ear instead of the headphones but that being said I wouldn't take a million dollars for these. God bless you and I hope this helps other families struggling to find a hearing aid for thier loved ones that doesn't put a strain on them financially. ... show more

    • EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS !!!
I'm 78 and quit trying to use my $3000 hearing aids more than 8 years ago . I am diagnosed profound hearing loss . I have had no social contact for at least that long . I have tried senior centers and various organizations to avoid being " isolated ". It did not work . The only way I could communicate with anyone was to be facing ONE person no more than 3-4 ft away - no background noise - no speech accent ( think medical professionals ) . Going out to dinner with visiting family was actually a chore. I know there are at least a few of you who understand the situation - NO conversation for the rest of your life. So when I found the "Pocketalker Ultra " on Amazon , I did not have much hope that life was about to change - big time . My stepson and his wife are down for Christmas and last night we went to a Mexican restaurant - a LOUD Mexican restaurant . My stepson and his wife have been married for years. I doubt that I have had a half dozen conversations with her in all those years. Her voice just did not exist for my ears and she has remained somewhat aloof . Last night I placed the Ultra in the center of our table and wore the ear bud. Our table was six feet from the bar and LOUD people galore . She and I talked and talked and talked . I could hear every word with no repeating . ( and, yes, I nearly cried ). When we got home I told my wife how amazing it was. Oh, and my wife and I have had problems for months with me hearing her , making for some strained encounters. Sitting 6 ft from her , she had to yell for me to hear her. I put the Ultra on my chair arm set at 3 , using the ear bud. We talked in normal voice with no misses on my part with the TV on. Most of my professional life has involved electronic systems in the Navy and DOD. I look at the Ultra with wonder. Their engineers have designed a product delivering speech discrimination at this price point. While $3000 hearing aids NEVER involve discrimination circuitry. I recommend the Pocketalker Ultra to everyone with hearing loss . ... show more
