  • Somebody please remix this potentially great record.
To start, Kings Of Leon are one of my favorite bands of the past 20 years. Hit me hard straight out of the gate with 'Youth & Young Manhood.' I have genuinely loved every album since. It's difficult to even pick a favorite, so I won't. When I heard the rumblings of this new record forthcoming I was as always, very excited. I bought it. I put the needle down. I sat back. I smiled. I thought...hmmmmm. Simply put, this is one of the most confusing productions I have heard from somebody who is considered to be a master in the studio...Markus Dravs. This is actually confusing by any standard. This is just not right. This is a murky, muddled and truly lackluster production. The bass is overwhelming. The vocals are completely buried in the mix. There are no dynamics to be found here. It is FLAT. No life. Just none. Not even the upbeat "rock" songs sound urgent in any sense of the word. So...that's that. THE SONGS...the songs are quite good. But, honestly it is hard to focus on the songs with the production being so unflattering. If this album were put into the hands of someone with a new ear...this may just be a 4-5 star effort. I actually hope others rally and demand this be done. I would love to hear what this would sound like with a new mix / mastering. ... show more

  • Another well made record
KOL always puts out fantastic quality vinyl records. This is no exception. Yes, it’s another mellow record like Walls, but I like this one more. This album, like every album, has its own identity. Yes we all know when you used to listen to them. No, they are no longer rocking out to songs about hookers and blow. Yes they matured and evolved buy still put out great records. ... show more

  • Good with the bad
In short, there are highs and lows on the album. The first few songs are great but the album never really takes off from there. The production is too muddled and, while it works on some songs, it causes the whole album to seem more monotone than it is. Songs like “The Bandit”, “100,000 People”, “Stormy Weather”, and “Supermarket” hold their own. The rest, maybe excluding “Golden Restless Age” are so so. It’s certainly not a bad album but the songs don’t vary enough from one to the other. The band sounds like they are trying to stretch their legs, it’s just hard to do when the production doesn’t provide much space. ... show more

  • KoL Keeps Evolving
I've been a big fan of this band for a lot of years, and there has been a noticeable musical growth by them with every new release. Their sound is very polished now (which seems to dismay many of their earliest fans), but I'm a believer in the path this band's music has found. Many great tunes, but for me, "100,000 People" and "The Bandit" are the best. "Time in Disguise", :Golden Restless AGe" and "fairytale" are also very good. Really solid from top to bottom! ... show more

  • My Favorite Band!
I have been a fan of KOL since 2007. So I was very happy to hear they had a new album coming out, and after six years at that! I pre-ordered the album, something I had never done before. I found that Amazon was great about communication of when the album would arrive. It came a week earlier then the estimated time. It plays very well. I am very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • easy to listen to
I originally wrote a negative review on this album but it was my mistake. I loaded two albums to my Astell & Kern and went to bed, thought I was listening to the new Kings of Leon, but it was the other Artist. Oops. This is a decent effort.
