  • Excellent generator
Style: 12500 Watts - Gas Only
I received this generator today. I have had a Generac 3250 generator for 14 years and replaced it with the Westinghouse 9500C. I was surprised that this generator is about the same size as the old Generac, which was only 1/3rd the power. This generator is better built than the Generac. For example, the handle is much bigger and more secure, the tires are more than 3X the size and are MUCH better attached, and it has battery operated starting. I was pleasantly surprised that it was very easy to set up and run. It is a bit loud, but that should be expected for a powerful generator. This generator is also easy to move about. I am very happy with this purchase. ... show more

I have a few of these generators, they are absolutely amazing! Wish they would just fix the wheels though. After about a year they fall off

  • Unbeatable value. Perfect for whole home emergency power.
Style: 12500 Watts - Gas Only
Why did you pick this product vs others?: The value of this generator is unbeatable. The electric start alone is convenient but having remote start is icing on the cake! I have this hard wired to our home and with a soft-start installed on my 2.5 ton central A/C unit, it powers the whole house. We have +/- 30 l.e.d. lights, two chest freezers, two 25 c.ft. French door refrigerators, gas furnace, three this, dish washer, garage door opener and clothes washer breakers hooked up to it. We've tried running all of these at the same time and it works perfect, no bogging down. I installed an interlock on main panel (very easy, user friendly install). Ran #8 awg wire to panel from 30 amp inlet box installed on side of house and NEMA L-14 power cable. I can't run dryer and A/C at same time, but no big deal. I just turn the A/C breaker off and flip dryer breaker on when I need to dry my close. Word of advice, only use recreational, no-ethanol gas and a stabilizer. I use Seafoam. It's a bit on the loud side, but expected with such a large unit. Set-up takes 2 people....or 1 stubborn husband who prefers to not ask for help! This thing started up right out of the box after adding oil and gas. ... show more

  • Bonus
Style: 12500 Watts - Gas Only
This is a really nice generator. Setup was simple for someone even with the slightest mechanical inclination. The quick start instruction manual neglected to mention that the battery cable is disconnected. After going through the quick start manual, I hit start at the end and nothing happened. Only after thinking about it for a little bit, I remembered a previous commenter mentioning that the cable connection needed to be connected and wallah! It started on the first press of the button. I have since gone through over 48 hours of power outages and it has been able to run my entire house, including a 5 Ton heat pump I use to heat my home. During both power outages the outdoor temperature was below 32 degrees F, and ran nearly continuously. It is an inverter heat pump, so it's gentle on startup. I was also able to take a shower and run my electric oven to cook a pizza at 450 degrees. It didn't struggle even in the slightest. It's as noisy as you would expect for a generator this size. I wasn't shocked at it's noise level and neither should you. I was expecting it to be larger, but it's still large and heavy, but smaller than I was expecting. It rolls out of my garage easily with the supplied handle. I wouldn't expect grandma to be able to roll it out with ease, but if she was determined enough, she could do it. I highly recommend this generator. I wouldn't go out and buy anything more expensive that has the same output. Just buy it and you won't be dissapppointed. ... show more

  • Good standby generator
Style: 12500 Watts - Gas Only
I bought this unit almost two years ago. It has so far gone 155 hours of run time, most of it under load. Almost flawless performance. Starts up effortlessly. It shut down on one occasion (hence my four stars) but after cleaning the air filter it was back up and running. I have gotten more than 10 hours under load on a full tank. Like with all generators, maintenance is critical. Follow the maintenance schedule (I even do oil changes ahead of the stipulated intervals and run it for half hour every two months if it has not been used) and it will be good for long time. Make sure to use the trickle charger to keep the battery charged and purchase a cover to protect it from dust when not in use. Also, add some stabilizer occasionally to the fuel tank to keep the fuel fresh. ... show more

  • **Read before assembly**
Style: 12500 Watts - Gas Only
Amazon delivery was perfect, 2 guys from Amazon delivered the generator, very polite and loaded on a hand truck and put it in the garage where I wanted it, and I didn't even have to help. Amazon did a awesome job delivering. I then read through all the paperwork and then the assembly was really easy. It yook me longer to read through the manuals than assembly lol. I did the assembly 100% by myself. Some very important tips that you will not see in the instructions: take a razor blade/utility knife and cut about a half inch up from the floor around the entire bottom of the box (make sure the box is sitting in upright position) take your time and make sure you cut all the way through and then lift the entire box straight up off the generator. Flip that over and you will have a perfect box to throw all the trash into. Next tip: lift up on the side of the generator and put some scrap 2x4s or anything very sturdy and then let the generator rest on the blocks and then that gives you the height to install the legs on the bottom, when you are done that side move the blocks to the other side and Install the wheels effortlessly and you can do it if you don't have help. That's pretty much it, add the gas and oil. The owners manual and I would strongly recommend using non ethanol gas and also add a good fuel stabilizer to the non ethanol gas, unless you are using this generator once a month I would recommend the fuel stabilizer because most people if you are using this as emergency backup power could go months or even years without using the gas. I would strongly recommend also to start the generator every month or every few months and let it run for a while just to exercise it some, also should hook it to the house and put a load on it atleast once a year. Also be sure to leave the battery charger plugged in at all times to keep the battery charged or when you need the generator the battery may be dead and it won't start. I love how the battery charger is built into the generator, the previous generator I owned, I had to purchase a trickle charger and install it on the battery myself, so that's awesome. Another tip: do not use all of the oil they sent, keep an eye on the dipstick and add oil very slowly and it shouldn't quite take the whole bottle of oil, don't over fill it. I used the included 10w-30 but as recommended will switch to the synthetic 5w30 after oil change which I would recommend pretty quickly because there's a lot of metal shavings in the oil after the initial break in period. It fired right up with the push button and the key fob also worked great. It seems to run pretty smoothly so far. It is noisy but it's to be expected, nothing unusually loud for a generator. The generator seems to be built pretty solid and happy with the purchase, time will tell if it holds up, but I am definitely hoping it lasts. I shouldn't say it but kinda looking forward to the power going out so I can fire this thing up and make it feel like it was worth the purchase lol ... show more

  • Just purchased but all has gone well so far.
Style: 12500 Watts - Gas Only
The product was delivered on time and unloaded in my driveway. Assembly instructions were clear and I assembled the wheels and feet quickly. After adding oil and gasoline, it started right up on first try. I plugged into the receptacle for house power and flipped the safety switch on the master panel to allow for the generator and the Westinghouse 12500 Peak Generator powered the whole house. Obviously, you want to turn off all unnecessary appliances and mood/decorative lights, but generator adequately powered the TV, computer, router, lights, refrigerators,HVAC both upstairs and downstairs and the pool equipment to prevent freezing during cold weather. ... show more
