Description

Remember when you had clean and quiet portable power? The WEN 4800-Watt Inverter Generator provides clean energy, free of voltage spikes and drops, without all the noise of a regular generator. Produce up to 4800 surge watts and 4000 rated watts of power on gasoline, or connect a propane tank using the tool-free quick-connector for up to 4320 surge watts and 3600 rated watts of power on LPG. The keyless electric start lets you turn on your generator at the press of a button, and includes a recoil starter as backup. The WEN Watchdog CO Shutdown Sensor helps protect both you and your family by automatically turning off the generator if dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are detected. Our 224cc engine operates at a modest 62 decibels at quarter load. This limits its invasiveness while camping, hunting, tailgating, and restoring backup power. The WEN 4800W Inverter Generator is also equipped with fuel shutoff. This feature turns off the flow of fuel, allowing for the generator to use up the remaining fuel from the carburetor before automatically shutting down. This helps fight the build-up and blockages caused by stagnant fuel inside of the carburetor, minimizing maintenance while prolonging the unit’s lifespan. Designed to mirror a pure sine wave, this generator limits total harmonic distortion to under 0.3 percent at no load and under 1.2 percent at full load, making it safe to run laptops, cellphones, monitors, tablets and other sensitive electronics. The built-in wheels and telescoping handle make for easy portability while the ultra-efficient 1.9-gallon tank provides up to 7 hours of half-load run time (or 20 hours half-load run time on a 20-pound LPG tank). The fully-packed panel comes equipped with four three-prong 120V NEMA 5-20R receptacles, one 12V DC receptacle, one 120V TT-30R RV receptacle, and two 5V USB ports. Maximize fuel economy by engaging the eco-mode switch. This allows the generator's engine to automatically adjust its fuel consumption as items are plugged into and unplugged from the panel, preventing the unnecessary usage of gasoline. Need more energy? Easily link up any two WEN inverter generators using a WEN Parallel Connection Kit (sold separately) in order to share wattage amongst multiple units. Low-oil and low-fuel automatic shutdown combine with the built-in overload protection and indicator lights to safeguard both your generator and your electronics from damage. And because this is a WEN Product, your inverter generator comes backed by a 3-year limited warranty, a nationwide network of skilled service technicians, and a friendly customer helpline. Remember when your generator powered your electronics safely and quietly? Remember WEN.

  • Nice quality, good power output, quiet enough, VERY easy to operate and maintain. Nice quality, good power output, quiet enough, VERY easy to operate and maintain.
Style: Dual Fuel + Electric Start
Works like a champ! I got this after many years of losing power due to winter storms. I just need something to power the lights, the refrigerator, and the water pump for the instant-on all-house hot water. This is likely overkill, but there's enough extra if I want to add something else to the mix. I received this a few days ago but couldn't set it up until today. After I read the entire manual, I got the unit prepared: I filled the oil tank appropriately, connected the battery, set up the LPG connection, made sure the ECONO MODE was off, and then set the 4-function switch to CHOKE. One press of the START button and the unit began to start, but then stopped after a few seconds. I tried to think through why, and then realized that once the unit starts you need to set the 4-function switch to RUN. So I did that, and it began running immediately. I then put a device (a lamp) on the power outlets, and the unit ran well for the test. You have to take the access panel off one side to fill the oil, but it was easy enough with the included screwdriver, and you have to take the other access panel off to connect the battery, but again, easy enough. The screw/bolts that attach the side panels do not come out of the panel itself, so that means you won't lose one when you're trying to do all this in the dark! :) The included funnel makes it easy to fill the tank, but it's a bit tricky to see if there's enough oil. The included dip stick might not show the oil easily, but if you wipe off the dip stick before you put it in, then the oil level will show better on the stick, and if you lay the stick flat against a paper towel, you'll see the level of oil easily by the oil stain. I bought the recommended optional magnetic oil dip stick replacement. It is designed to remove any metal bits that might be in the engine post-production or that wears off from the engine action. Note that the length of the magnetic "stick" is slightly shorter than the included plastic one, so use the plastic one to check the true oil level. Connecting the battery is not difficult, but it's a bit tricky with the length of wire connecting the battery plug ends - not quite enough to get them both out to easily push them together. Pulling them apart is a bit tricky as well, because they are quite snug. Re-attaching the access panel for the oil fill opening was relatively easy. Re-attaching the access panel for the battery connections was more difficult - you really have to get both plugs back into the slot where they ju-u-u-u-u-u-st fit; without getting them in correctly, you can't close the access panel. I give a half star off for this. Not a terrible thing, but a design that could have used a bit more consumer testing and feedback. Turning off the generator is easy enough. You remove any devices connected to it, turn off the LPG, and then let it run until the LPG still in the system runs out. Then you turn the 4-function switch to OFF. After that I removed the LPG hose from the inlet plug in the generator, used the handle to roll the generator to the storage spot in the garage, and I was done. It is very easy to move because of the double retractable handle, much like the retractable handle on your luggage. It appears to be well made, with no visible defects in products such as plastic overspill on the formed pieces or bent or misapplied paint on the metal parts. The wheels are large and roll smoothly. The power output for this device is enough to run several ordinary appliances such as one refrigerator and one microwave, some lights, and for me, enough to run the on-demand gas-fired water heater. I bought the cover for the generator and a grounding device. They are stored in the box next to the generator itself along with the instructions. And I saved the PDF from the website in case I lose the instruction booklet! I've attached a video to show noise output, and some photos of the generator itself. The side panel access for the battery connectors is ready to get to, but it's wild to get the battery connector covers replaced and then get the connectors and wires into the *tiny* place they offer. It's nice and compact, and sits in my garage in an out-of-the-way place. 4.5 stars, with one-half star off for a poor placement of the battery connections which made it difficult to put the battery connection access panel back on the device. ETA: 1. I built a little "house" to protect the generator from the wind and rain while it runs, and it works great to protect it. 2. I ran it during a 24+ hour power outage here to drive the power to my refrigerator & freezer and to provide power to several lamps inside the house and a coffee maker. Then I ran it to power up my CPAP machine. (We have a gas stove for cooking, and a woodstove for heat.) Ran for 8 hours, worked great. 3. This thing is *much* quieter than my neighbors' generators, all which are regular gasoline-powered units that are not inverters. While you would not want to sleep next to this, the sound output is much, much lower. 4. Running with propane makes for much less smelly emissions. You still will have some, and don't be fooled that it isn't carbon dioxide/carbon monoxide. But it's not going to gag you if you catch a whiff. Very, very pleased with the device. Also, I store it in it's little "house" with the battery cover removed so I'm not fussing with it when I lose power. The two plugs that connect to make the circuit remain unattached, but they're "loose" and available to connect when needed. ... show more

  • Looks to be an excellent generator
Style: Dual Fuel + Electric Start
I've only had this generator for a week now, but I wanted to report on my experience so far. I bought this unit to run my furnace in case of a power outage, but I wanted a unit that was capable of being connected to my house power panel should I decide to do so. I selected this generator because it has the most features for an excellent price: something I can lift (I'm 76), dual fuel, CO protection, quiet, etc. The only feature it does not have is an automatic switch over between fuel sources when one runs out (it appears on other models but not this one). So far, I have only done the 8 hr break in period, running with a low low1000 watt load and replacing the oil. (Do get the magnetic oil dip stick. It should come standard. There was quite a bit of metallic shards on the dip stick after the break in period.) I used only propane which is how I intend to use the generator unless circumstances require using gasoline. I got the 8 hours with just 10 lbs of propane so a couple of 20 lb tanks should serve for most power outages. Running just with propane has a number of advantages: only minutes to connect and start, longer run times between refueling, no concerns about gas degrading in storage or in the engine, and much easier on the engine, extending its service life. I would also point out that I tested the exhaust and was unable to detect any carbon monoxide. Of course, one should always run the unit outside as instructed but clearly running with propane is safer. So far, the unit has run flawlessly. One thing that greatly impressed me was how quiet it runs. What prompted me to write this review is an important feature missing from the manual and all videos reviewing this unit. Every video and the unit's manual say that you must remove the oil fill plug and tilt the unit to drain out the oil. Yet, just below the fill hole is a bolt with a rubber trough below it that is clearly intended to convey liquid. In addition, there is a hole in the case directly in front of this bolt that is clearly there to allow one to insert a socket to remove the bolt. I did remove the bolt, and it is clearly an oil drain plug. Using this method of draining the oil is easier and much less messy and avoids the danger associated with trying to tilt a 60+ lb machine. I am considering replacing this drain plug with a short length of pipe and cap that will make draining the oil that much easier. My next step will be to test out running my furnace off the generator using my modified power supply switches and electrical plugs on the furnace. So far, I could not be happier with this generator. ... show more

  • Great choice - plenty of power, quiet, easy to start and run - even for a novice.
Style: Dual Fuel + Electric Start
Very happy with this purchase for my older mother who uses an oxygen generator. With hurricane season followed by ice storm season, I needed something that I knew would keep my mom's oxygen going, was easy to start and maintain, dual-fuel and simple to operate so her (female) caregivers could get it running quickly and easily. This Wen 4800W inverter is perfect. Very simple to set up and run - quiet enough that you can barely hear it on the back patio. We're only using propane but it has plenty of power/watts so that even with the lower propane-fueled output I know we can run everything essential for my mom - even a space heater and the fridge if needed. Long extension handle makes it easy for caregivers and sisters to wheel around while not too heavy for me to lift (6'1" 195lb in decent shape). ... show more

  • Best bang for your buck imo Best bang for your buck imo
Style: Dual Fuel + Electric Start
So far ive been really happy with the generator. I just completed my 8 hour break in period over 3 days of running. Ive used propane each time and never had an issue starting even with the factory charged battery. A couple slow pulls of the handle before using the electric start works every time. It will try to start on choke and just manually switch it to run and it fires right up. I ran a 1500 watt space heater and a 20" industrialish fan on high and it ate up nearly half of its capacity. No complaints still as its on propane not gas and will be more than enough to run some fridges/freezers if need be. Its also going to serve as a heat and ac backup plan. If i was to give one complaint it would be with the wheels because they rattle. The rattling while running adds additional noise thats not needed. I do believe some simple rubber/metal washers will fix it. Is this thing Honda quiet? Absolutely NOT. Is it quiet enough not to blow your eardrums YES. I can talk to someone next to me while running at half capacity. It does drop some decibels while running in eco mode. I asked a neighbor if they could hear it running and im talking about 100+ feet away and they said they could hear a faint humming sound but wasnt too bothersome. I used the WEN 55201 metal/magnetic dipstick to catch fine metal shavings and it absolutely did. That being said i have noticed some slop to the threads and i get a few small drips of oil that leak out of the o-ring. Its a little annoying but not something i would swap out for the factory one. I changed the oil after the first 3 hrs of runtime which yes i know is early but i wanted it out sooner than later. I used the conventional oil WEN supplied for the first 3hrs and switched to a blend for the next 5 hrs. As there is some pro/cons for doing so. Im now switching to a full synthetic Castrol oil. Its cheap insurance for longevity of the engine. Dont cheap out on something that doesnt have an oil filter. ... show more

  • Working well right out of the box.
Style: Dual Fuel + Electric Start
The generator arrived in perfect condition. It’s very compact and easy to move around. Time from ordering to receiving was 2 weeks. It’s very well packaged, looks to be well made and high quality. It started easily and ran smoothly on propane. I plan to run it exclusively on propane because it’s a much cleaner-burning fuel, safer and much less likely to be contaminated. Break in instructions call for running it at 50% load with varying loads for 8 hours. I solved this problem by connecting a small space heater and toaster oven. The data meter showed 50%. By adjusting the thermostats periodically I was able to change how often the load cycle varied. After 8 hours the drained oil was slightly charcoal gray in color. I had purchased a magnetic dip stick prior to receiving the generator and after break-in it had a small band of dark charcoal colored residue on it - no metal filings. I tried starting several times (on propane) without croaking and it starts right up every time, even at 38 degrees. I’m guessing the instructions to “choke” are for starting on gasoline. Later on site use proved to be more troublesome - have needed to go through the start cycle 3 or 4 times to get it going (again on propane). Perhaps purging the 25’ propane line might help. So far so good. I’ll update this review as my experience progresses. ... show more

  • Fantastic little workhorse!!! Super quiet!!!
Style: Dual Fuel + Electric Start
II love this little guy!!! it is unbelievably quiet for the amount of juice it puts out. It’s light enough for me to pick up by myself at 68 years old and has some incredible features. With propane just turn on the gas and hit start. With gasoline be patient.. found that if you do a complete start cycle (about five attempts by itself)on choke (or until you smell gasoline) turn it to run and do another start cycle and it will fire right up. This is with an empty fuel tank and a little finicky about priming. Something I discovered about the battery is that the polarity is reversed. I have a trickle charger that has the same type connector as the battery, there’s only one way to plug them together and when I did so my charger indicated reverse polarity so I changed over the leads to my charger to black to red and red to black and it charged perfectly. It comes with very good instructions and is ready to go out of the box (EXCEPT make sure you put the oil in first) I’ve used a large shop fan combined with a shop vac to use as a load and it runs at about 40% so it’s perfect for break in. Can’t wait to hit the 8 hour mark and change the oil so it will be ready for the RV. They don’t talk about the gas gauge in the manual but it has green bars that indicate fuel level for gasoline only. I was putting in just a little gas at a time during break-in and was confused why all I had was yellow flashing light. DUH.. When I completely filled the tank after break in I saw the green bars. Once again DUH… I changed the oil with Penzoil 5W-30 full synthetic so it will be good for all temperatures. I also discovered that after the 8 hour break in that it’s just a little bit nosier due to the parts breaking in and loosening up. But still within the very quiet range. It seems to be much smoother and happier running on propane which is probably what I will use as primary fuel. It even mentions in the manual that propane is the primary fuel source by design. ... show more

Not as described. The only reason I bought this model is because Amazon’s description says it gets 20 hours at half load on a 20lb tank. The included manual clearly says it only gets 12 hours on a 20lb tank. False advertising.
