I rented plate compactors from homedepot. They were hard to maneuver and their handles were a serious saftey hazard. So i spent a lot of time comparing brands, reading reviews, learning about pressure and more. In the end, i chose this WEN machine. It is great! I serviced theboil and fuel, read the instructions, and it started on the 3rd pull. Always starts by the 3rd pull. People complained about the handle making them think the macine should go forward and reverse. The handle is awesome. It allows for tall people to not get back aches reaching for a low stationary handle. It also allows you to lift the handle up over center to make flat turns, rather than leaning and tilting the plate and causing digs in turns. The adjustable speed/vibe pressure lever up on the handle really helps you manage moving around tight areas and objects getting to/from the job areas. Definitely worth the investment, and not worrying about rental return times.

I am a small excavation company and I bought this when the cost to rent one at my local rental place was about the same as purchasing for how many days I needed it for. The user manual says this, but you must put oil into the engine first, luckily the motor has some.sort of low oil sensor and it will not start without it. It's heavy but the handle flips so you can push or pull the machine depending on the work area. It has a eye hole at the top, which I put a threaded chain link on so I can hook it up to the tractor pucket and lower it into excavation sites. Really happy with my purchase so far. Only thing where there is room for improvement is that the oil filler is so angled its hard to put in oil with out it spilling over the fill neck but that's small engines for you. Also the handle grip is just soft foam that is easy to rip but it doesn't bother me, doesn't effect the performance of the machine.

This compactor was packaged very well! I opened the box to find everything in perfect order. You only have to assemble the handle. You have fill it with your own oil before starting as it is drained out before shipping. The choke would not move into the start position but after talking with their great technical support I figured out that by loosening two nuts that hold the air cleaner housing on to the carburetor the choke lever moved freely. I tightened the nuts and all was good. It started on the second pull. It runs great and works like a champ! The wheels make it easy to move around in my shop. I would recommend this compactor.

I just received this 7HP / 4500 lb (56035T) compactor and tested it out. Likes: - Value. Very competitive price for a decent size plate compactor, incluiding delivery. - Arrived without damage. Crate and cargo were intact and well-packed. - Minimal assembly. You need fold out the handle and fix two bolts. Add oil and gas. That is all. - Heavy and powerful. This larger-sized unit is worth it if you have a good amount of area to cover. I'll be making multiple passes over a long driveway and foundation area so the larger size is great. - Dual-sided handle. This particular model supports swining the handle either behind (normal) or in front of the machine. I can't tell you how many times I used this feature when working on my steep (12%) grades. It also has nice grab bars closer to the engine which come in handy when working on slopes or trenches / edges. Dislikes? - I had to mess with the throttle assembly to get it running right. First, there is not enough tension on the throttle to pull it back when you reduce throttle from the control on the handle. The throttle sticks and there is slack in the control cable. I'll probablly need to find and add a second spring to the throttle arm to get it to return reliably. I also had to unscrew the max throttle stop to get it to run at a high enough rpm to move forward. - Forward motion is still not as strong as I would like. My last rental was better at moving forward and going up grades. Overall this seems to be one of those "shipped straight from overseas" equipment experiences: You do not have a local dealer so you are mostly on your own for basic maintenance and adjustments. Given this equipment vibrates by design, I suggest going back and torquing all bolts / fasteners after 8 hours or use (or so). In the couple of test runs I did so far, it worked as expected (minus the caveats above). I'll update this review if I hit any issues after putting some serious hours on it. Overall I'm pretty happy so far.

I was Leary on buying this online but gave it a shot.. arrived in good condition once assembled added gas and oil and fired right off. Have about 6 hrs of run time on it sofar no issues

This piece of equipment is garbage I have owned it less than three months and I have only been using it in the last month. I experienced the same issues that others did of bolts working loose, especially the ones that hold the handle together, but far more importantly, the vibrating motor seized up halfway through a small job after I had used it five times no longer than two hours of total run time and it’s now completely seized the company won’t stand behind it. I wouldn’t recommend this product unless you’ve got 600 and some odd dollars to just burn.

The compactor arrived timely and was well packaged! I filled oil and fuel, checked all nuts and bolts Machine runs flawless! The handle only vibrates moderately Machine steers STRAIGHT AHEAD ( unlike so many other compactors i used). This is a very nice compactor which delivers good compaction, tracking and ease of use!
