Bought this to fix a mistake (bought to long) with some ridged galvanized roofing sheet metal. I figured for the price of this. It was cheaper than returning the metal and wasting diesel fuel. I decided to test this thing out against some of the comments of negativity. I drew a straight line on the metal with a marker. It DOES cut straight!! However if YOU the operator can't push straight. You're not going to get a straight cut. It will cut over a single ridge. This is where the swivel head comes in handy. Just rotate it 45 degs so you can push down and forward while cutting the ridge. However it will not cut thru a double ridge. Which I kinda knew it wouldn't. So I carried a grinder w/ a cut off wheel. I had 10ft of over lapped at the double ridge sheet metal to cut. Took me about 5-10 minutes. Most of that was moving the ladder and switching out the shear for a grinder. These electric shears are well worth it vs some aviator shears. If you have some detailed cuts to make. Test it out on some scrap metal 1st. So you know how hard you have to push and how much tension to apply to the trigger. ... show more

This is an excellent tool. I bought it to cut steel roofing, which has ridges and is fairly thick. Needed something to follow my guideline as well as handle the ridges ok. After reading other reviews I decided to try it. Very nice results. This tool was significantly cheaper than the same version sold by Harbor Freight. And it shipped quickly and efficiently and was in my hands the next day. Since I live in small town west Florida, that’s unusual. I pulled it out of the box, read the brief directions and put it to work. 45 minutes and 8 nice straight cuts later, I came inside to cool off, drink some cold water and share my experience. This thng will get you by for an occasional project. Five stars only because of the price, 43 bucks. It does cut, but it is tricky to get it going and takes just the right angle and a fair bit of pressure to keep it going. The edges will curl sometimes and sometimes not. A cheap solution but not for pro use. It was impossible to guide it with a clamped piece of plywood to cut a straight line. It would just stop, and I had to resort to guiding it by hand. Couldn't figure out why, It was just binding somehow. I had an air cutter from harbor freight, and it was similarly clunky, until it took its last breath. We were building wheelchair accessible, raised garden beds. The main team on the project were 'Women who Build', from Habitat for Humanity. They were wonderful builders but I was concerned about cutting the sheet metal panels in a crowded park with a rotating blade that threw tiny shards. I immediately order this and it came in the next day! Perfect. They were so happy with the results and the ease of using it that they asked where I got it. I explained that if they are looking for a heavy duty one they run about $200 dollars. This one fits my needs and it is only $43. One of the ladies said she makes lawn art and wanted one of them to make hair for her art. I told her where to get it but she ended up just buying mine and I just ordered another one. I saw in the reviews where a blade broke so I did some research. The blades are easy to get and the same blades are used on nearly all the brands out there, such as Milwaulkee, Eastwood, Klutch, Genesis etc. I am Extremely happy with all of the WEN products I have purchased, and this is no exception. ... show more

I used this metal shear for cutting chicken wire cloth. Overall, it works well if you are cutting along the line of the wire mesh squares. However, it doesn't work well if you need to cut at a crossing angle. The wires get caught in the shear, and you have to constantly untangle the jaws. For straight cuts, it will save you a lot of time to use this electric shear rather than manually cutting the wires. ... show more
