  • Great for sensitive stomachs, avoid the fish flavors (smell) and even makes your dog poop less! You also use far less.
Flavor Name: Lamb and Oatmeal Size: 26 Pound (Pack of 1)
Our McNabb Border Collie has a bizarrely sensitive stomach when it comes to dog food. She can only eat very limited ingredient dog foods, no matter the cost, or she has near-constant diarrhea. Been that way since she was a puppy. Wellness simple has always been easy on her stomach, and she eats it happily (I can't report for picky eaters, because she'll eat anything she can fit in her mouth) In addition to being great for her sensitive stomach, there are some other perks to using a limited ingredient, grain free dog food. Since this stuff is so nutritionally dense, you don't use as much dog food, which also means that this stuff comes out as being nearly as cheap as the cheaper stuff. A 45lb dog normally eats about 2 cups of cheap food a day. Our dog maintains her weight (and the vet confirmed this is correct) with HALF that. literally half a cup twice a day and she maintains her weight. We give her another 1/3 cup if she's had a particularly active day. The other great thing is that your dog doesn't poop as much! our dog only needs to go once a day, sometimes even every other day. Her stools are very dense (again, checked with the vet, this is normal) and since she doesn't go as much, it makes picking up poop much better, to boot! If you can afford it, I do believe the zignature brand food is even higher quality (and my dog absolutely goes berserk for the kangaroo formula) with the same perks, but since I do have to live on a budget, wellness simple is the least expensive quality dog food that keeps my pup from riding a diarrhea rocket into low earth orbit. My only suggestion is to stick with the lamb and turkey based flavors. The duck and fish smell EXTREMELY strongly, so you have been warned. Amazon currently sells this stuff for upwards of $20/bag cheaper than petco/petsmart. ... show more

  • This one was it for my dog
Flavor Name: Turkey Size: 26 Pound (Pack of 1)
Our German Shepherd loves this food ... and it loves him! We adopted our big puppy from the local shelter at 9 months age and 68 pounds. He had frequent runny stools and gas which I initially attributed to stress (which there certainly was some for him with all these adjustments) but his digestive symptoms persisted after he seemed otherwise settled. He also had symptoms of skin itching though we were sure he did not have fleas. He was on the regular Wellness large breed puppy food initially, and we switched to a 'sensitive stomach' puppy food of another brand, which was plenty expensive but contained an awful lot of ingredients for limited ingredient diet: chicken, fish, and egg product, plus rice, brewers rice, and barley (no wheat or corn). After further investigative work on the topic of food sensitivities I changed back to Wellness to this wonderful stuff, a grain free true LID with a single meat source (Turkey). Problem solved! He has not had a single loose stool since starting this diet, has no more gas, and has completely stopped scratching. And he loves it to boot (probably in part simply because he feels well enough to eat). This is not marketed as a puppy food but is similarly rich with regard to protein content. My puppy is almost a year old now so his need for 'puppy' formula food is probably debatable, but his need for food he can tolerate and feel good on is not debatable. I highly recommend this food for anyone wanting to pare down or isolate ingredients for digestive symptoms. I wish I had gone straight to it. We now avoid all treats that contain grain and treat our boy with bites of cooked sweet potato instead, which he is crazy about. It is such a relief to find the right food. His energy level is noticeably better and coat is already starting to become softer and shinier. We don't know much about our sweet guy's life during his pre-shelter time but it seems likely good nutrition was not part of it. I am happy he can finally enjoy that now, because he so deserves it :) ... show more

  • Dog doesn't get sick anymore
Flavor Name: Salmon Size: 24 Pound (Pack of 1)
Have fed several dogs over the years grain-free Costco Kirkland brand dog food. It is supposed to be the same recipe as regular Wellness. Healthy doggies, shiny coats and no gastrointestinal problems on Kirkland adult food. But our 2 year old Great Pyrenees seemed to be having more vomiting than expected, and not eating her food as eagerly as the other dog. A food with fewer ingredients seemed to be the route to try in place of trial and error. The Wellness Limited Ingredient worked great. No more vomiting and she chomps it down as soon as she's served. It's almost double the cost of Kirkland, but what wouldn't we do to keep or pets healthy and comfortable? Our black lab still loves and is healthy on the Kirkland food. Rosie the Pyrenees is a doing great on this Wellness Limited Ingredient though, with a healthy weight for her size at 130lbs. She's been eating this for almost 5 months now. I've stuck with the salmon flavor for now- haven't tried the lamb as I'm vegetarian. But may switch around depending on Rosie's health. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. My 7year old 75 pound Doberman recently had knee surgery, which caused him to not be as active as he normally is. I swapped out to this kibble to help with weight maintenance. He’s been eating this brand for the past few years and has done really well with this it. I feed him 1 cup in the morning and an additional cup at night. He’s a very picky eater, so I do need to put a bit of wet dog food on the top to get him started-but once gets going he finished without issue. This kibble has a very mild scent, is easy to chew and digest. It stores well in my dog kibble bin. I will likely swap back out to his regular kibble once he is back to his normal activity but I highly recommend this brand for dogs who need nutritionally dense, low calorie kibble ... show more
