  • In regards to some of the negative reviews for this desk...
Color: Dark Teak
First of all, I love this desk for all the reasons you see mentioned by other 5 star reviewers. But more importantly I feel like a couple of the criticisms this desk is getting from other reviewers is a little unfair. 1) The perpendicular lines you see in some of the wood grain in the veneer are marks left behind from the saws used to cut the wood. If this were all real wood- and not veneer on particle board- yes, those marks would be bad because they would be bumps and ripples on the surface. But because this is only wood veneer those marks have no effect on the smoothness of the surface. It's only a visual quirk! If you were to go to a lumber yard you would see those marks in real, rough sawn lumber. They're not an indication of damage or misuse. Personally I like seeing a few of those marks here and there because they made the wood look "real." I've owned furniture with wood veneer that looks "perfect" and honestly it looks fake! This veneer, however, looks more like real wood. The desk I received only has a few of these marks here and there. 2) In regards to gaps in the top panels: there are small wooden dowels that are used to line up the edges of the three tabletop surfaces. Insert them and marry the 3 top pieces together snugly, and THEN tighten down the screws that holds the top to the metal frame beneath. This ensures that you won't end up with any gaps on the surface, which is a complaint in some of the other reviews. Be careful not to overtighten these screws! Fair criticisms: Even when properly secured the 2 joints between the 3 top pieces aren't perfectly flat. At the worst spot on my desk there's about a 1 millimeter difference between the two surfaces. I guess this could be an annoyance if you like sliding things around your desk a lot, but in my use I never notice it. Also the instructions don't tell you how to insert these dowels, or even mention them at all. I'm tempted to take a star off my overall score for this oversight, but I feel like anyone with a little bit of common sense would see the dowels in the parts kit and the holes in the edges of the top surface pieces and figure out how it goes together. Overall I really love this desk. I wouldn't expect to get anything better than this for the price (about $200 USD). The unit I received has no nicks, scratches, dents, or scuffs of any kind, despite the box being a little beat up and some of the parts sliding around inside (the packaging inside the box definitely could have been a little more secure). I was able to assemble this by myself in under 2 hours, but I was taking my time and didn't have anyone to help me. Also, at first I was skeptical of the dinky little wooden platform on which to place your computer tower, but it's actually perfect! The plastic feet on it are very smooth, so I can slide the platform (and my computer) around on my carpeted floor to wherever I want it. This adds a lot of flexibility to how you want to setup your computer. Be warned that this little platform is on the small side. My computer tower overhangs the front and back by almost an inch, but it still functions fine because of where the rubber feet are on the bottom of my computer. ... show more

  • I’m happy!
Color: Dark Teak
this is from the point of view of an avid gamer/streamer. I also use this desk when I work from home. I got the desk and started to put it together right away. As far as assembly goes, it wasn’t that difficult to put together. The instructions aren’t great but it wasn’t hard to tell what they meant. I’ve put together enough ikea furniture to understand at this point. There was one issue where you have the circular, ikea like, locking nuts that you twist onto the bolt itself that did not fit on the underside of the desk top. This didn’t really cause any issues with the desk top itself so I have no issues other than to make sure they fix that in the QC department. Once the desk is put together it feels sturdy enough for my desktop pc and three monitor setup. I have an audio mixer aswell as a mic on a boom arm and I still have a lot of room for my keyboard and mouse. Over all for the price I think this is a pretty solid buy. I would recommend this desk to anyone looking. Do keep in mind the QC issues with that one single issue. Again, it would have been nice for that hardware to actually function but it doesn’t seem to affect the desk at all. So that is the reason for the 4stars. Overall I’m happy with it. If anything changes I will update with any issues that I may encounter. ... show more

  • GREAT DESK BAD INSTRUCTIONS
I brought this for a room in my home that I finally decided to turn into an office. I wanted something big and sturdy that offered room on the desktop and some shelves for storage. This fit the bill despite being more than what I wanted to pay at first out of pocket but was well worth the cost. With that said I did have a few issues but nothing that was a deal breaker but I thought I would share. The instructions being the first issue. You almost have to be and architecture to understand the diagrams. It required more than one person not only to move the desk because its very heavy in the box but to assemble it as well. At certain times I would say it would have been almost impossible if someone was not holding a piece here and there to help me put it together. As a few of the reviews I read said you definitely have to follow the instructions exactly however that is sometimes hard to decipher what goes where. My main issue though and why I couldn't just give it the 5 stars was because of a very small gap where one of the pieces meet. One side I was able to get it to fit snug and tight. The other side has a very small gap but gap nonetheless that I could not resolve. Luckily this is in and area where I don't need to lay anything flat or write on so I don't see it being a problem long-term however if you are picky about things like that just know its a possibility. ... show more

  • It’s pretty okay I guess.
Really salty that two days after I ordered this it’s $50 cheaper.... But aside from that, all the screws that come with this desk are disgusting and greasy and will stain your clothes, your carpet, your life. My box came absolutely mangled, and one of the desk top boards doesn’t sit flush with the other boards. The instructions are fairly easy to follow as long as you pay attention. The metal bars are all labeled, along with the screws, but none of the wooden boards are marked which only lead to confusion once since most of them are different sizes. I like the look of the desk and it seems sturdy so far. The middle shelf board is not so sturdy and I wouldn’t put much weight on it, but all in all I find this to be a fairly nice desk for my needs. ... show more
