Description

This book is the distillation of many years' experience of working with Weber carburettors. Unquestionably pre-eminent in their field, these celebrated carburettors have been fitted to some of the most exciting and memorable cars and have been more widely used by tuners and modifiers, both for road and competition machinery, than any alternative. The mysteries of why and how they work so well and the practicalities of getting the best from them in any application are explained at length. Light is also shed on the complex interrelationship between the carburettor, the engine and the other ancillary components. The author's enthusiasm for this subject comes through, too, so this is no dull text book: theory is always closely related to actual practical considerations. Setting the carburettor to suit a particular engine, fault-finding on an existing installation, and the maintenance and repair of older carburettors are all topics which receive detailed attention. Anyone maintaining or restoring a classic Weber-equipped car, or contemplating a Weber-based conversion, or simply interested in the science of engine performance and tuning, will learn something from these pages. • Literature
Very neat book, reads like a novel. It is a bit difficult to read for a carb-newbie, like myself, but a really cool read.

  • I think the best part of this book (and Passini's others) is how ...
I already own John Passini's "green book" and wish that I had known about this one when published in 2008. This book is very well written, as are all John Passini's books, with just the right amount of technical, sense of humor, and experienced guidance, I think the best part of this book (and Passini's others) is how he conveys theory and operating principles from a first-hand experience, while simultaneously offering candid guidance for what not to do (and why) when rebuilding or reengineering a weber carburetor. Most readers would likely be exotic classic car enthusiasts, track-day and circuit racers, and professional mechanics, will all appreciate the first-hand experience for the information provided by Mr. Passini (like having a master mechanic in your reading room). Anyway, these were my take-aways. Well done. ... show more

  • Good Guidance
The book is generic (to many types of Weber) so by definition recommendations for specific applications are limited. It does however provide a good description of the different types of jets and their respective circuits in the various types of Weber carbs along with how the various circuits work together. References do however tend to be related to smaller engines and with single or twin carbs rather than more elaborate multiples. It is written in a very readable style which makes understanding easier. On the downside the font is very small (the book is A5 size) so if you are shortsighted it may not be ideal, (this does make it more portable however). On the whole a good book for the money. From an info position if you buy this you don't need 'Weber carburettors by Verlon P Braden' or vis versa either one is a good buy but not two. ... show more

  • there are some jems in there
YOu have to kind of push your way through this book. As long as you don't mind a variety of information thrown at you at the the writers whim with no real logical flow, there is some good info in there.

Did not have info I was looking for

  • Small sized book, very difficult to read
Very small book, with small and difficult to read font. Illustrations are reduced in size and poor quality. Detailed illustrations of carburetor parts are good to have, but are not clear. Parts are numbered with no accompanying cross reference of parts and numbers! No reference to Weber carburetors used on the most popular cars! I’m not sure who posted all these positive comments. ... show more
