It lubricates it and keeps them from drying up by the sun. I originally purchase this for the seatbelts on the Honda CRV that were no longer retracting. Worked like a charm. have also used it on a garage noisy door. Just lift it up and use the included spray straw after shaking for about 30 seconds and spray where you need things lubricated. I have some sliders on the porch that consistently stick both on the bottom rain and the top. I didn't want to put a very sticky lubricant because bugs use this windows to end their (apparent) tragic lives and I don't want them to stick to the track. This specialist silicone by WD-40 is not as oil based as the original and dries in seconds but give superior slide without all the gunk. needed this for my ceiling fans. We keep them running all the time, they finally started to give a random squeak and for some reason that noise severally irritates one of our dogs. I am going to use this on our bathroom door hinges too.. Might as well give all the metal in the house a little lube action. I also did not realize how many different WD-40 options there were in the world. So, I assume this would be just as good *** I took away 1 star because the lid ended up falling off randomly and I could not get it back on securely, I was able to still use it if I was very careful, but then it just ended up turning into a mess.
