Came across these and tried them out, discovering two things: (1) they muffle gun blasts really well, and (2) they act like hearing aids for all other sounds. You can fire any pistol caliber up to .45 in complete comfort (highest caliber I possess). At the same time, you can have a conversation with a shooting partner without raising your voice at all. When I've turned up the gain, I could hears sound that my unprotected ears could never detect, in one instance tracking an animal in the bush off the side of the range. Fits very comfortably on my size 8 head. Yes, size 8, a full 25 inch circumference - all the men in my family have big heads, just ask the women. Excellent padding on both ear cups and strap. Very happy with the preformance and quality this ear protection. After reading other Amazon reviews, I ordered both this Walker's Razer Slim model and the AKT1. Happy with both and keeping both for woodworking and yardwork. The AKT1 model is more comfortable and has better sound passthrough in the headset than the Walker's; human voice on the AKT1 sounds authentic and unmodified. This Walker's Razer Slim model has a smaller profile on the head and doesn't protrude as much from the head, however the sound passthrough sounds more digitized than the AKT1. ... show more

I will be 73 in a couple of months, and I have been shooting since I was about 10 years old. This includes my time in the military, where I was a firearms instructor, and as a casual hunter and shooter for many decades. These are absolutely the best hearing protection I've ever used in all that time. I like that I can adjust the sound if I want to hear people talking, but I can also leave it turned off and still hear what's going on while my ears are protected.
