Size: Spike Aerator
It's a spike aerator and it does what a spike aerator does. It doesn't make large wholes or remove plugs from you lawn. Most of the negative reviews I read are based around the soil conditions of the users. Some said it was too hard to push into the ground. Well that's because their soil was heavily compacted. Which is the reason for aerating in the first place. Maybe they should tell people to water your lawn thoroughly the day before. But that's just common sense. It doesn't make huge holes "for the seed to fall into." It's not supposed to. You don't want the seed to fall 2 or 3 inches into the ground. It won't germinate. "It's a lot of work." That should be obvious. It does what it's designed to do for a reasonable price. It's well built and easy to assemble. Some people complained about the tools that come with it. I'm from a generation where everyone had their own set of wrenches. I'm 64 and it pretty much wore me out after two hours of stomping this thing into the ground and pulling it out. But I expecting nothing less. Use it on damp soil. Once you get it into the soil, rock it back and forth lightly as you bring it out. The harder it is to get it into the ground, the more you need to aerate that section. I punched about 6000 holes in a 900 sqft section of my lawn in a little over two hours. I do not plan to do the other 8000+ sqft of my lawn with this tool. I could, but it would take me days and days to do. There are other, much more expensive, devices for that. ... show more

The tool is easy to use and works great. I just personally underestimated how much work it would be to do my whole lawn. I have a very normal size yard in a suburban neighborhood, not huge and not tiny. I took a good two hours and did maybe 1/10th of my lawn. I'm going to monitor the results before I do the rest of the yard because I'm lazy but I'll likely finish the job one weekend at a time. $20 to do the lawn is a great price and this tool is awesome. But I sort of wish I spent the money to get a machine to do it for me since I'd be done now. I just didn't want to store the machine my garage is already cramped. ... show more

This aerator is made of durable steel and is made well. It is very easy to assemble and it comes with a pair of “stamped steel” assembly wrenches and a couple of spare replacement spikes. I used it on compacted soil and the spikes went in pretty easily. For really difficult soils, I just wiggled the handle while I stepped onto the aerator and it left a nice set of uniformed holes. I’m very happy with this purchase and plan to aerate my whole yard. I have a medium size yard (about 3,000 sq. feet, front and back) It will take me a little time to do it but this aerator is easy to use so time is the major factor. I have several areas in my lawn that are compacted and have made St. Augustine grass difficult to grow. I’m looking forward to a beautiful lawn next season. ... show more

It’s easy to assemble but hard to use in my lawn. It’s tough to push down if there are small stones and the stones stick between the spikes. There is no adjustment to select desire lengths. The material is sturdy.

This package arrived on schedule in excellent condition. This Walensee Lawn Aerator Spike is made out of heavy metal with bolts for the spiked. The package came with two extra spikes, bolts and lock-nuts to assemble the handle, and included two wrenches that fit the bolts to assemble the handle. The wrenches also fits the spikes although all spikes were assembled. I checked all assembled spikes to see if they were all tight, with these wrenches, and tightened a few that needed tightened. Very easy to put together and very easy to use. I did an area about 3’x15’ and added grass seed and top soil after aeration. I had some nice green grass coming thru a week later. Easy to clean off with the hose after using as well.
