  • Outdoor plants love this added to their soil
I did some research about mixing my own soil mix to use in my outdoor container garden. I kept reading about Biochar and was curious how it might impact my container garden. I used a mix of potting soil, Perlite, Peat moss and Biorchar. I read about which percent of each to use. Since Biochar was the least amount used I invested in this brand. I used one bag to mix in soil that filled about 12 containers, racnging in size between 8-20" size. My flowers, herbs and tomato plants have not ever been more fruitful. I'm watching tomatoes and flower flourish in early July, here in the Midwest and I believe the soil has made them so happy! ... show more

  • Not sure….
I think this product could be as useful as the “compost” version from the same company but it needs to be “charged”. I made guesses as to the strength / quantity of the fertilizing liquid…not sure I did it right. More specific directions as to the “charging” process would make me want to buy this again. ... show more

  • Very soft, this isn't charcoal pieces
I wasn't paying attention when I bought this and thought I was just buying horticultural charcoal. This, though, is a really soft, nice soil amendment. I added it to coconut coir. I felt I had to add extra perlite to even out the moisture retention of the mix, but if it's everything the product page (which I finally read in full) says it is, it's a long term improvement for the soil. May be slightly wasted on my mix but eventually all that ends up in my outdoor garden anyway so it works out! ... show more

  • Needed to replenish soil
Saw this product in documentary: The Need to Grow. This is the magic bullet to regenerate soil back to life. Sprinkled some into the soil for my jalapenos and pomegranate tree and just looks healthier and stronger. Ordered more to add to soil in raised bed planters. Will be trying on vegetables.

  • Wakefield Biochar Soil Conditioner
Biochar is the buzz currently in organic gardening. Obviously, if one is serious about organic gardening, then keeping up on the science aspects is important. This Wakefield biochar specifies it is made with renewable tree sources, not cardboards or other burnable trash. Back in the day, I used horticultural charcoal for African Violets. It helps with aeration, and 'sweetening". But it was not known that the particles of horticultural charcoal worked because it enhances beneficial microbial activity, which strengthens the nutrient exchange at the plant roots. Biochar is a type of charcoal. The ash and residue from fireplaces and bbqs are too alkaline to use. This package is a good size to mix enough with planting mediums for several 8-10 inch pots. The Wakefield char is screened so there is a uniformity that easily blends and has no burny odor. ... show more

  • Love this stuff!
I planted baby hibiscus bushes in Georgia red clay, which isn’t a good medium for new plants, but I mixed in the biochar and my bushes are growing beautifully! I’ll be using biochar with all of my new plantings.

Biochar was effective. It was easy to use. Calamansi cuttings grew leaves within 3 weeks, very pleased with my purchase.
