I have painted cars professionally for many years using conventional high pressure spray guns. At the shop we had a company demo an HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray gun, but we didn't end up using them. Recently I have been considering upgrading my home compressor and getting new spray guns to paint cars at home, but also had some interest in trying the current HVLP setups. I just bought this sprayer and wanted to share my experience: 1) On first impression the spray guns are totally unlike the pro guns because the design is very simple and everything is made of plastic. I was surprised by this but in use they work great. 2) Upon turning on the power base and attaching the hose to the gun, another surprise - air is constantly coming out and when you pull the trigger paint sprays. In practice this doesn't really effect the painting process. 3) These guns are capable of efficiently putting out a lot of paint, but the low pressure may limit flexibility for matching metallic paint. Summary: For my car projects at home and my style of painting this system is fairly quiet and works well with almost zero over spray which translates to less wasted material. I have only tried this with basic automotive acrylic enamel but I would expect this to be able to spray pretty much anything that can be thinned out to the right viscosity. Overall, for the price it's a very good value and you can get pro level results painting your car at home. If I get the chance to try this with metallic I'll update.

I used this product to paint in several applications; 1. Using the duplicolor garage primer surfacer, paint, and topcoat --- I refinished my car in deep blue metallic and have received many compliments on it! Always shocks people that I did it at home. (Be sure to put 6-7 coats of clear over the color immediately after to allow for wet-sanding and buffing, also go slow and maintain you gun distance and spray pattern! Lastly don't skimp on prep, sanding/cleaning/taping the surface has a huge impact on the final result!) 2. I applied gunmetal grey plastidip and topcoat from dipmycar to finish my wheels, mirrors, and tip of my exhaust. It has held up very well and the finish was very smooth! 3. I applied an undercoating and rust inhibiting primer to the underside of my car. This was the easiest of the applications as it didn't need to look particularly good but greatly improved the road noise in my vehicle and gives me confidence for the winter. 4. Lastly I have painted a desk using a latex paint; I used the finishing gun provided and thinned the latex paint 1/4 thinner 3/4 paint and it sprayed fairly well with the motor on setting 2. The finish is unbelievably smooth (better than a roller but not better than a sprayer purposed for interior paints) All in all, I am incredibly pleased with this system. It is very versatile and with some patience and research you could spray just about anything! Its fairly easy to maintain as well which is very encouraging for future projects

Have had this for about 4 years. Originally purchased it for a plasti-dip project but I’ve used for so many other jobs since. Painting the kids rooms, painting furniture I’ve built, spray finishing both painted and polyurethane trim in my home, you name it. Getting dialed in to the right pressure and flow can be tricky as this thing has the ability to lay down a LOT of product, so start on the lower settings and work UP, not the opposite. Otherwise you’ll blast out a quart of paint in about a minute and have a runny mess.

i turned my 99 cherokee from an ugly heap to a pretty heap. i sprayed durabak with the geit in it. It doesnt spray it easily considering how thick durabak is, but it sprays well enough to get an even coat in less than an hour. i was estremely surprised and pleased.

For suck a simple design you would think that it would be fairly easy to clean. They need to make a better cleaning kit for this thing. If you do not get every drop of bed liner or paint out of it, it will shoot out the next day and ruin your paint job. The problem is that paint gets suck behind the plunger and you can't get to it with a cleaning brush or with paint cleaner or by just shooting acetone through the paint gun. It somehow gets trapped in there. Then the next day it's a pain just trying to get the gun to shoot any paint. When it works it works awesome! But once any paint gets suck at the top of the long tube that you can't get to, or the plastic jets, it's pretty much game over. I'm going to try it one more time and see if maybe it was just a faulty machine. If it happens with the next one that I buy, I will just have to go back to using the classic air compressor and a texture gun to shoot bed liner.

I got this initially to do a plastidip on my car, funny thing is, I haven't been able to paint my car yet since the plastidip color I want wasn't available in CA (gallon of red plastidip). I ended up using this unit for painting SEVERAL interior room walls. I did not even thin with some paint but with just a tiny bit of water and you'd get professionally smooth results. It may seem tedious at first with all the prep and cleaning but if you prep properly, clean off the sprayer immediately and know how to work with it you would be 1000x more efficient vs a roller. This proved to me that it can virtually spray anything
