  • Am a beginner and this worked great!
Super easy to set up and use. I didnt have any issues with spraying my parts. Probably have done ~30 various brackets and hinges. Using just the ground from the receptacle, did not have any issue with creating a good charge and getting adhesion. I actually liked it better without the tip on the end. I connected a water filter and lower pressure, pressure regulator and didn't have any issues with an even, smooth coat - that has a lot to do with the oven situation too, but as far as I could tell, the gun worked great. Like the clear bottle for seeing how full it is. Lots of youtube videos to watch on how to use and improvement modifications. I have been very satisfied. Oh, and the handheld grounding button is far far better than some of the other inexpensive ones with the foot controlled buttons. ... show more

  • It's really good for smaller projects
Things that worked well for me: I really liked the voltage setting. Powdercoat can be finicky and the Eastwood stuff (pictured) works at either voltage setting and reduces overspray by using the higher voltage. The Harbor Freight stuff would not work at the higher voltage and weirdly seemed to be actively repelled with the higher voltage. Being able to switch it up is a great feature. Another great to have feature is the Eastwood powder bottles just screw onto the powder coater. You may have to bump up your air depending on how much you're using but it's really nice to have the bottles that the stuff ships in work without having to pour it between bottles. Also the bottles go on the bottom so only aerosolized powder comes out the tip. This is very important for an even coating. The tip is easy to use too - you can set it closer or further to change the spray pattern and it works well. It's a much better solution than playing "where did I put that other tip" when trying to change up the spray pattern. Things which would make this much nicer: A light to indicate the thing was on would really be helpful. My teenager enjoys making lightning with it to test if it's on but a light would be nicer. A foot pedal would be nice too, or a holder for the button, which I zip-tied to the handle. The sprayer itself zip ties the wire to the air port which makes it hard to add a quick detach attachment to the air intake as the zip tie thing is thick. It's an easy fix, but annoying out of the box to have to move the wire. An overpressure safety would be nice too - I exploded my first bottle (the ONLY bottle it comes with) because I didn't realize my kid had cranked up the air compressor to use air tools. I should have checked it, it's entirely my fault, but I would have appreciated a valve to save me from myself. To that end, the plastic bottle cracked before the sprayer blew up so it has graceful failure conditions. ... show more

  • Works great, easy to use.
All I needs was a couple of practice runs and the on my first real use the finished Eastwood powder coat came out great! Must start with nooks and crannies before dusting the open, flat surfaces. For my small parts I used a a toaster oven that I also bought on Amazon from Elite Gourmet (size 23 liters) - also highly recommend. ... show more

  • Really wanted to like this thing...
This is my first attempt at powder coating so in an attempt to make it easier on myself I bought a fairly well known brand that USUALLY produces quality products that are user friendly. This was not that. The eastwood powder gun looks and feels quite cheap. The dual voltage switch that looks like it would also operate as a light to say whether or not the thing is powered on in fact does not. Every cable on the little box including the power and gun are not even 4 feet long. So spraying something that you have to walk around to get to another side is a dangerous nightmare of wires, cords and an air hose dragging around the little control box. No extra hopper or even a sample of powder, and no air line fitting you HAVE to have in order to operate the darn thing. I bought some of their powder as well and it's my opinion it's subpar and overpriced. The fluidizing powder in the hopper cakes onto the plastic air supply in the bottle so bad(i assume from static charge) that you end up with several grams of powder as waste that won't leave the bottle. I think the harbor freight version that's 50 bucks cheaper is the way to go. ... show more

  • You can powder coat at home
It works well. you still need an oven (no you cant put powder coated stuff in an oven you use for food) or powerful infrared lamps. Air supply as well.
