I was very disappointed with the quality of the tools that came. The wire cutters did not have edges that lined up, and didn't actually do any good cutting. I ended up using my wire cutters from my tool shed instead. The wire was good but not very much of it in the set. Of all the tools in there, there are only two that I've really been able to use. Of these two items, not including the wire of course, I could have bought separately for significantly less than this kit was and had a higher quality tool. Normally, I wouldn't worry too much about the quality but when it comes to bonsai and plant care you need to have sharp quality tools or you risk hurting the plant and potentially damaging its growth. The tools are so stiff that I need two hands to open and close them I haven't gotten around to see if excessive oiling will loosen them up or not. They're also very large so if you're working with small bonsai these are not going to work for you at all. This scissors were not sharp and were stiff, I actually had a better time using some scissors I got at the daiso dollar store. Really I was sad because I'm new to the hobby and needed some tools to get my plants properly set up and trimmed without hurting them and these tools just could not do the job. I ended up using one of the branch trimmers and the root rake plus the bonsai wire and that's pretty much it. I do plan on trying to use them at a later time on some bigger gardening trees and shrubs in my yard. I'll update my review if they work okay on bigger trees. ... show more

This is a really sturdy, well-made set of bonsai tools for beginners! All of the tools are plenty sharp, and are solidly made of high-quality steel, and have served me well! I wipe off the cutting edges with boiled linseed oil and the rest of the tools with generic light oil (like WD-40 or a similar oil) then wipe them off with a clean rag really well after using them, and they're in perfect condition still. I would recommend this to bonsai beginners. The tool set comes with everything you would need for beginning your journey on being a bonsai beginner. The only one thing I would recommend to get with this is probably some oil, so as to keep the tools from rusting.

I couldn’t have done better for the money! I will admit you can spend $200 or more on a set of more expensive tools as I have many many times and actually I purchased this set because recently my Jin Pliers broke on me and a new pliers was going to cost me $43.99 anyway so I was in the process of looking for a new pair I ran across this set which included a pair of Jin pliers and for an extra $20 I could just buy this whole set which also includes a couple other tools I was going to have to replace in the near future so I thought why not...lol and I have to admit I’m impressed with the heavy duty quality of the tools! They were a lil stiff at first but after a little bit of lube and they were good to go! I haven’t used every tool in this set yet only about half of them so far in the past few weeks since I purchased this set. But the ones I have used seem to be good quality however I did notice that one pair of pruners seem to be a little looser than I’m use to but maybe that’s just me and I didn’t purchase this set for the pruners anyway! The packaging wasn’t great just the closed case inside a box and I feel like they could add something to keep the set from maybe getting damaged during shipping I feel like that could lead to some unnecessary problems for them in the future. But this company ships very fast and arrived sooner than I expected! I would recommend this set to anyone from beginners to intermediate bonsai enthusiasts especially for beginners who can’t afford or want to spend a ton of money or someone like myself who is looking to replace one or maybe two tools but can get a whole set for just a few extra bucks! I think you might be surprised! And I know there are gonna be some hardcore bonsai enthusiasts out there that’s probably gonna read this review and say I’m crazy because they have $1000’s of dollars of tools in their boxes! But this review was based on price point and quality based on that price and my satisfaction based on that alone. ... show more

Great kit for the beginner & the intermediate bonsai artesian. I have better bonsai tools, but, I paid as much for 2 tools as I did for this entire kit. I’ve started a bonsai club & I mainly bought this kit so beginners could have some tools to learn with. These tools will do the job quite nicely. For the price I feel it is a great kit. One note, I did need to lubricate all the moving pivot points with oil & more them back & forth. They were really stiff at first - now with some oil they move freely. ... show more

Received 6 Feb 2020. First look since everyone seems to be excited about it: The tools arrived completely free of rust, well sharpened, and well made (at the 4.5 stars level, huge value for price). In detail: the tools have charmingly hand made look, not the machine-finished look of Stanley or Craftsman. They look like they might have been made by a lil' 'ole Japanese blacksmith. Now, for me, this is appropriate to my bonsai hobby. I don't have a lot of experience yet with bonsai, but I do have with woodworking tools. A couple of the tools have a slight lack of perfection in the grinding and meeting point of the cutting edges that can be perfected with 5 minutes of work with a file. Woodworkers and wood turners don't expect tools to be delivered perfectly, but always customize them slightly to cut just as they want them; this may color my view. The bottom line is that I'm really happy with my purchase. I will update when I have put them through their paces. ... show more
