I've made several runs with this still and have managed to get a good high proof product. 160 or so depending on the alcohol content of the starting mash. Tape your connections with Teflon tape and use the silicone washers provided and you shouldn't have any problems with leakage. Five gallons of mash has yielded me around 4 quarts of drinkable liquor with 3 or so quarts of heads and tails to throw in the next run. You could probably keep more if you wanted but I generally don't keep anything under 80 proof. For $100, you can't beat this thing.

Thumper not large enough. Attaching lines seals fall out or don’t seal without teflon tape. Directions very vague!

The media could not be loaded. This still surprised me. I’ve used it now several times and still has yet to fail me. It doesn’t leak if you do install seals right. Also you’ll need to use thread tape on some connections. I suggest buying your own airator. The one that comes with this is not good. I mainly use stove top and it works just fine. Just use mesh bags for mash and you’ll be fine.

Finally used it and its garbage. Every joint leaks no matter how much you tighten it. The copper coil is way to small for the size of the pot so it hardly works. The pump included is great, it's meant for something twice the size as it blows the lines off everytime and makes everything leak so you can't even use it. (Lowest setting, still pops lines). So overall crap. $120 for a cheap 8gal pot everything is "included" is worthless

It’s a great starter still. There is definitely a learning curve. I would have liked the alcohol spout be a little longer or at least a better way to get the distilled product from the spout to the jar, but you can find work arounds. It’s sometimes a challenge keeping at a steady temp, but that’s more a user issue and not a product issue. If you can make good distilled products with this then a higher quality still is a no brainer. Everyone should start with this to hone in skills.

I had to use it a couple of times to get it right but once I did I was amazed at how well it worked. I am using it for essential oils and it really works good. It’s a little big, but other that I love it.
