The holes on the mounting bracket are almost three inches apart - see the picture. That's fine if you're going into concrete or masonry, or have access to put a backing plate inside the wall (e.g., when wall construction is underway). However, wood studs are only 1.5 inches wide, so even if you had two studs together, this wouldn't hold without angling ("toenailing") the bolts. You could make that work, but it would look rather ugly and misshapen. The only system that works properly on a wood-stud wall has two (or more) bolts in line. I just ordered on of these (https://amzn.to/31FR5sC) from Amazon, and I'll write a review when it arrives. Two notes. 1) The construction of this unit is solid. I was loving it until I considered how to install the mounting bracket. 2) In the photo, although I show the tape measure on the side rather than across the top, the bracket is square, so the distance between the holes on the top/bottom is the same as the distance between the sides. ... show more

    • It's easy... just wastes a lot of your time because they didn't label the parts!

I bought this to wall-mount a Yaber V7 LCD projector. While made in China, all the threads were perfect and all the screws and bolts fit the holes without messing with it. It's strong, solid, and adjustable. That's the good part. The bad part is that the hardware (bolts, screws, and washers) aren't labeled. This means dig out the screw-hole measurement tool, or a micrometer. Worse yet, if you intend to sort and check that all the parts are there, about half of them are for "other projectors". They provide M3, M4, M5, and M6 screws with sized washers... but you only need one of those choices for YOUR projector. Be smart: save the rest for one day when you upgrade your projector, it uses different (not provided) screws, and ACE Hardware is closed. Time to sort all the parts, separate them and match with provided diagram and assemble arm that goes from wall (or ceiling) to the projector: 1hr. Yes, I timed this one. Time to put the VESA-compatible mount on the back of the projector: 1hr. That's because of the four articulating arms the mount has two with full range, and by default two with little range -- but they provide two full-range arm-ends to replace those and make it completely adjustable. Unfortunately it mounted using the little range arms, but then I couldn't center the mount on the projector... so I had to take the limited range arms off, put the full range ones on, and then I could move the center of the mount to the center of the projector. This isn't critical but aesthetically looks more pleasing to the eye. Tools you need in addition to the provided hex ("Allen") keys: #2 phillips head screwdriver ("plus screwdriver" in Canada), and some tool that measures and can differentiate the different screw and bolt sizes. There's a piece labeled "cover" in the manual. There's no other reference in the manual other than the parts list as to where this "cover" goes and what it "covers". NOTE: As other posters have pointed out, this can't be mounted to US wood studs (16" or 24" on-center) without a backing plate. HOWEVER, if your projector doesn't weigh much, this 3.5lb mount and your projector will easily be supported by four drywall anchors and screws. The kit does provide humongous concrete anchors and screws but those are overkill for a light drywall installation. One final comment - they spend an entire page of the installation manual telling you how to run cables through the arm and connecting piece. However, as the cables have to go into the arm (visibly) and then go into the projector (visibly) save yourself the headache of mounting this thing with cables sticking out of both ends and fix it up with zip-ties. Would I recommend this product: Yes Would I sort parts ahead of time: No Would I zip-tie cables instead of running them through the arm: Yes Next up: figure out (using a Kill-A-Watt) the power usage difference between lamp-off and lamp-on and see if I can get my X-10 current loop sensor to actuate the electric screen. Setup is actually very easy, mostly a few Allen-wrench screws to put it together, you might need to buy different screws for putting the bracket on the projector itself though (I needed some that were a bit longer than the included M8). Hard parts were: 1. The mounting bracket is too wide for normal studs. I ended up screwing a 1'x4'x0.75" piece of wood across three studs, with two screws in each stud, which let me mount anywhere across the wall with a lot of flexibility (which is important since you're gonna want this mounted so that the projector lens is dead-center with the display surface, which can take a few tries). 2. It kept swiveling left-right and causing trapezoidal distortion. There are two nuts on the inside that you can tighten/loosen to adjust left-right angles on the projector (I don't think this is listed in the manual), but I'd recommend having it be totally straight and tightening those down. You'll need the right size wrench, but it's not included; I happened to have a thin metal one from a different assembly package - needle-nose pliers might work. ... show more

Very heavy-duty, powder coated steel. Easy to configure with a little creative thinking, like sliding the adjustable feet into the arms backward, so the mounting hole is facing inboard, rather than outboard. Depends on the projector. If there are 3 mounting points just pull one of the four arms off by taking the screw out. If you’re doing a wall mount and need the rear of the projector close to the wall, put the mounting arms on the projector so the attachment point to the tube is close to the front of the projector. Used as a wall mount the tube attaches to the bracket and the bracket screws to the wall, rather than the ceiling. This puts the arm parallel to the floor, but don’t try to tighten the screws from the tube to the bracket and expect to get them tight enough to HOLD it parallel. You will strip the threads trying (don’t ask me how I know this). So stripping one thread, I came to an understanding that the arm will tilt nose down a few degrees until the tube bottoms on the wall bracket. Just let it hang and snug the screws. The bracket steel is ridiculously sturdy and it will not bend. Then just a slight UP angle with the adjustable part of the assembly attached to the projector, when you assemble it to end of the tube.
