"Engineered wood" is another term for a type of particle board. This is not just a giant slab of mahogany, so people naturally think it's going to be flimsy or break easily. I was one of those people, but I figured for $100 I couldn't go wrong. I received the table top a day before it said it would arrive, with no damage. To my surprise, it's much sturdier than expected and the specifications are exactly as described. The media could not be loaded. It gets the job done. I couldn’t get the linnmon (?) top from ikea and couldn’t transport a table top from Lowe’s or whatever because my car is small. This fits great and it works with the Alex drawers. The side that has screw holes, I put contact paper over it so now my desktop is reversible. I can either have the flower print or the solid white top. It’s great value and I got an acrylic table cover to protect it. I know from experience that these white particle board table tops paint wears out quickly an you’ll have to repaint it. To save that effort I got the protector, from Amazon as well ... show more

First of all, when we received the shipment, it was packaged securely with plenty of protection. I was a little worried since we have had many bad experiences with bulky orders. As you can see from the picture, we placed the tabletop on top of two filing cabinets. The tabletop feels sturdy and will rarely move, depending on the surface of the file cabinets and the weight you have on the table. This is worth every penny. I bought another sit to stand desk but the 60x30 dimensions was too big for the space I wanted it in. As you can see from the pic, with a 34 inch monitor on the 60x24 there is still alot of space. It's a solid piece of wood too. There are holes, but they are made for the vivo desk. I drilled my own holes with no issues. I buy most things on Amazon and ever so often I come across a winner. This desk top is definitely one. #thankmelater ... show more

It's a heavy and sturdy desk top and I would believe that this will last. The surface finishing is more like a plastic office desk texture than a fake wood texture; I'm a bit disappointed by that but I can accept it. The board is packaged carefully with foams on all 4 corners, 4 edges and both side, but there's still a minor clip-off on one corner. Damage probably done in the factory already? I won't bother to return and replace one. Took off one star because of that. ... show more
