Nice standing desk, affordable, needs no electricity to work, works well so far, seems durable so far. Meets all expectations, and actually it exceeds them, overall. Here is the resolution to a concern that other reviewers mentioned: The company has improved the way you assemble the desk, so it is in fact easier to assemble than earlier versions, but they failed to reprint the instructions, so the instructions seem problematic when you try to follow them. But the simple upshot is that all of the holes that formerly required locating and drilling by the user (and self-tapping screws) now have prelocated, predrilled holes with prethreaded inserts (taking machine screws). So you can just screw it together, without drilling, and they give you enough machine screws, and you will have the self-tapping screws left over, which you can just toss into your spare hardware bin, for reuse elsewhere. The assembly is thus not that hard, although it does take a while. If you just accept that it's going to take an hour (not merely 10 minutes), then, already knowing the explanation given herein about the instructions discrepancy, you shouldn't have much frustration during assembly. ... show more

I am 6 ft 4 inches and this desk does great to reach my height. The desk is durable, hand crank works very well, and I love the height adjustment.

    • poorly manufactured.

The instructions are useless... they seem to be for a desk they no longer make. They give you screws for a top you don't use because they now have predrilled holes for other screws. Don't get me wrong I like metal lined sleeves better--but those predrilled holes did not line up with the crank so it was impossible to get the crank shaft into the gear box.... you'd think they would know where the holes go. If you don't mind making your own holes then the desk is OK... I did not attempt to contact the company as I do not want to attempt to ship this defect thing back, or receive a new top and have the burden of disposing of the defective piece.... I will modify the desk to work properly and never buy their products again. The desk looks nice and the ability to raise and lower is nice I'd have given it higher marks if it was easy to put together and actually could be put together. ... show more

By and large a great desk, especially for the price. PROS and CONS listed below. Pros: + Sleek Appearance + Easy sitting-to-standing desk via manual crank (Save $300 vs. Motor-based desk) + Fairly Sturdy Build + Multiple Grommets for lacing cords through desk Cons: - Desktop comes in three parts: these panels do not seem to align perfectly with pre-drilled holes--up to 1 mm off. Thus, while left panel is flush with mid-section, the right panel is not. I may try to correct later, if I can. - Poor assembly instructions & heavy parts: I don't mind the heavy parts, they add to the stability and expected durability of the product; however, unexpected heavy parts with poor assembly instructions are a problem. I was following the directions exactly when the heavy leg fell and bashed into the stand, causing the black paint to chip off both pieces (Hey VIVO! Want to send me some black touch up paint? ;)). Afterwards, I had to use common sense before implementing any of the "suggested steps"--meaning while assembling the legs it is safer to do so in the opposite direction (upside-down...right-side-up? Eh, opposite of what it says). Furthermore, after you get the legs and feet attached, you actually need to switch to the desktop manual, which will have a different set of instructions and parts for finishing the assembly--though if I recall correctly, you have to switch back to the original instructions toward the end. While I understand--after reading the reviews--that VIVO has updated instructions online, this extra step is a pain-and-a-half. I was also unaware of it until after the damage was done. - Grommets slightly loose: the fit of the grommets are slightly loose, so the pop out with almost no pressure. ... show more

I thought this would be the answer to my needs but no, I can't recommend it. I ordered the black set, black top and black legs and received the black top and white legs. I was OK with that because it didn't make much difference to me and my chair is black and white. If it matters to you check to ensure you got the right color legs as soon as it is delivered. The box is not easily opened and then reclosed. It is also heavy so would be a total bummer to drag somewhere to ship it back! The top comes in a separate box. Once I got the three pieces assembled for the top, I attached the top to the legs. Note: The legs are really heavy and if you are supplying your own top, make sure the top is thick enough that you can use sturdy screws to attach it (four screws on each side). If you get the top and the legs, be advised that the bolts to attach the top to the legs are in the top hardware packet. The screws to attach the legs to a generic top are 7/8" wood screws included with the leg hardware and IMO, would not be adequate to hold the legs to the top well. The instructions can be confusing. The top and the legs have separate instructions so make sure you have a clear understanding of both before you start. ... show more
