I was going to return this because I felt it was too heavy. Since then, tariffs were announced and the replacement cost would be much higher, even to buy a lighter one. While it's a bit much for walking as it's nearly 20% of my body weight, it's perfect for weighted exercises at home such as lunges and squats without straining my wrists. As for walking, I found a great deal on a dive belt with several removable 1 lb weights and it's less stress on the spine. I reviewed that item in my other reviews. As for the smell, it smells just like my neoprene surfing wetsuits. It doesn't bother me but it bothers someone else in the household who never wears wetsuits. ... show more

It smells. Like chemicals. I’ve been trying to air it out and wore it briefly and couldn’t take the smell. Seems to be comfortable when wearing it. Couldn’t keep it on for long with the smell. Left it outside for weeks to air out. Barely helped with the smell. Washed it, didn’t help. I’m not sure if I will ever be able to wear it with the smell that makes you nauseous and gives you a headache. I would try a different one if I were you. ... show more

I’ve owned this vest for a month. When I opened it, there was a strong chemical smell. I let it air out for a few weeks and then put it away. I wore it today and the smell transferred to my clothes. The fit and weight are good but the smell is strong.
