I took this on a hiking trip to Yosemite and found it handy and sturdy - especially when walking up and down steep hills. I am not typically a hiker, so this was so helpful in helping my stability and strong enough to support me. It folds up nicely - though I wish it were even more compact - but it is flat when folded up and easy to pack. It wasn't difficult to unfold/set up or fold up again for packing, but I wouldn't say it's super easy. Sometimes the height adjustment button at the top of the stick was a bit difficult to use when raising and lowering the stick height, and the button would sometimes be difficult to line up with the hole I designated. However, when it's at the adjustment I prefer, it was sturdy and reliable. If you don't want to purchase a pair of expensive hiking sticks, or prefer a cane style, this is a very good option. ... show more

I bought this for my husband (5’9” and 188#) for a trip as he had recently injured his hip. He could walk without a cane but the long distances in the airport while carrying a backpack were something i worried about. This cane was perfect. It folds easily, takes up little space in his backpack and proved to be as sturdy as a regular cane in use. It was so much better on the plane than dealing with a regular cane. He appreciated the wrist strap when he was sitting down. The plastic clip that holds it together is perfect as it the carry bag. Lots of colors to choose from and the height is adjustable. My biggest concern was the weight since I’d be carrying it around in my backpack. But it isn’t heavy at all. Also, another reviewer mentioned using a hair tie to hold it instead of the thing it comes with and they were right. Especially if you don’t have a lot of dexterity/coordination with your hands the thing that comes with it is a pain to put on. Besides all that, it’s pretty sturdy. I haven’t used it for very long but I tested it and it wouldn’t come apart no matter how I pushed on it. That being said, the elastic that you have to pull on to take the thing apart is pretty thick, I think most people will be able to handle it but if you have issues with upper body strength just keep that in mind. I have a muscle wasting condition and really struggled with stairs, balance, and a left knee that sometimes has a mind of its own. I also struggled with the decision to buy a cane. Based on the recommendations of some of my friends I ordered a Vive. I feel more stable stepping up or down and walking in general. This is really good once you figure out how to get the handcuffs it comes with off of it. Maybe if it came with a Velcro strap? Getting it out of the plastic handcuffs it came with was amusing at best. Otherwise it’s sturdy and adjustable, get yourself a Velcro strap of something me sort, hopefully one that attaches to the cane for convenience! ... show more

I've had both my ankles replaced in the last 12 months (Total ankle replacements). While my titanium ankles are solid, I have very tight tendons and scar tissue adhesion that makes walking SLOW and challenging. I've had this cane for 6 months, and it has served me very well during that time. It's lightweight, sturdy, folds easily and unfolds nearly magically. I recently returned from a trip to Europe. I was worried about all the miles I knew I'd be walking and all the cobblestone streets. This cane was my best companion, even though my 3 speeds were: 1. Slow, 2. Slower, 3. Wet Cobblestones. Was having a knee problem, so bought this for a 2-week trip to Italy....just in case. Of course, after the first day my knee was a huge problem so immediately started using the can to reduce the impact of walking. That helped a lot and I used it for the full two weeks. The problem with the cane was the rubber end is so cheap, it completely deteriorated the first day of use. I did continue using the cane with just the metal end, making a distinctive tapping sound as I walked. I was also able to hit a little harder as a warning of my presence to tourists not paying attention. I was happy with the rest of the cane. It folded but is a little tricky to get latched together, but I didn't do that often. The metal shaft is strong and didn't bend at all, the same with the handle. I was sure the locking pin for height adjustment would fail but it did not as there is a locking collar as well and it bore up well to use. It was unusable on smooth surfaces such as in a church, store, or museum but was fine on the streets for the most part. It did occasionally slip on a smooth patch of cobblestone or similar but as I was not using it for balance that wasn't an issue. If you do need it for balance or constant use, this will not work for you once the rubber tip wears off. This cane could be great with a better rubber tip. I did do a return but would buy another if they just improved the rubber. ... show more
