I've bought the Vitamix blender about 7 times so far (for myself, family and friends), all refurbished. I haven't experienced or heard a complaint with any of them over the past 10 years of purchases. Needless to say, I'm a loyal customer. With this series, smoothie blends come out smooth and delicious as before; the look is more sleek without sacrificing durability or functionality (still heavy and powerful - and loud). My (minor) complaints are that I prefer the rubber blender cup cover, which also accommodates the tamper better (actually fits over the hole it goes through to seal it). The hard plastic blender cup cover on this series is awkward to remove and the hole the tamper goes through isn't fully covered by tamper (so contents can spill out while blender is in use). Further, I don't like the digital display, but I at least wish there was a kill switch, so I don't have to unplug the unit after use (the lit-up digital display annoys me for whatever reason - it doesn't display time of day, so it's just on when not in use). A complaint across all units is that I wish Vitamix shipped with a glass blender cup, rather than a hard plastic cup, or at least have the option available. Glass tech has come far enough that I wonder if the shatter risk with high rpms is still the issue; at this price point, it certainly cannot be about affordability. (Stainless steel removes visibility.) In conclusion, this series works well and should last long, as expected from a Vitamix unit. Wish they maintained the kill switch. A glass blender would be nice, if technically possible. I'm pleased it has the option of food processor attachment, though I'm still weighing the value proposition. ... show more

Edit/update: I've been using this vitamix a lot, sometimes three times in one day. Since I learned not to go too slow (start slow but rev up pretty quickly, don't hesitate -- that was my mistake) I have not ever had another overheat issue -- just that once and apparently it was my user error. Nothing gets puddings and beschamel sauces creamier. I make nice cream regularly too. This Vitamix has become a staple/everyday appliance and I didn't even have a proper blender before this one for close to 20 years. All of a sudden I'm making several dishes a day in the Vitamix and recipes I wouldn't bother to attempt without it. There is a learning curve. Third time I used it I overheated it and I thought I'd have to return it. Took about 45 minutes to cool off and surprise surprise, it started up again, no problem. I looked online and apparently I was using it on too SLOW a speed for what I was blending. Too Slow will cause overheating -- who knew? I haven't had another issue with it since. I bought a refurbished Venturist Model, so I was worried that maybe it's just a dud, but that only happened once and apparently it was user error. I only have it a couple weeks, usiing it several times a week to make nice cream. So far I'm OK/Happy with my purchase. I will try making HOT soup in it sometime soon and see how that goes. The book it comes with is very nice with some good recipes. If this holds up well I will consider purchasing the food processor that can be used on the same base -- one motor, two different applications -- it is compatible with only two types of Vitamix bases, and the Venturist is one of the bases the food processor is complatible with. We'll see. I'm going to keep giving this a good workout for the next few weeks before I decide. ... show more

We had a Vitamix before this one for 7 years that finally gave out on us, so we bought this one as a replacement. We love this one even more due to the upgrades to the shape of the blender. These blenders last forever and blend so fast that you can put raw cashews in it and they will be completely smooth. It also blends so fast that it will make what you're blending hot if you let it run for a few minutes, so you can make hot soup or hot cashew cheese without ever putting it on the stove. ... show more

Used it 3 times, hasn’t worked right from the start. Error E31? Not sure what that means. From the FAQ’s on the manufacturers support website, sounds like Vitamix has plenty of these problems. And wouldn’t you know it, the Amazon 30 day return window closed a week ago. Does that mean I’m stuck with this worthless malfunctioning blender? ... show more

I did my research and did not want to pay over $600 for a blender. I mistakenly purchased the food processor and realized it did not come with the base motor. So I only wanted the base motor but this choice offered me the blender as well so now we have a complete set and can interchange the blender and food processor as needed. ... show more
