We need a variety of probiotics in our gut to help digestion and keep us healthy. Lactobacillus acidophilus is the most common and well known one. I've taken it off-and-on for many decades, especially when it seems my digestive tract has gotten out of balance, like during and after taking a course of antibiotics. Vitamatic Acidophilus Probiotic is an economical way to introduce and maintain a healthy balance of acidophilus in your intestines. We need a lot more than acidophilus, so this isn't the be-all and end-all probiotic, but it's probably the most important one for most of us. I still keep a broad spectrum probiotic on hand as well and alternate between it and a pure acidophilus supplement to keep everything balanced. I like this Vitamatic product because it's made in the USA and is an economical way to keep my digestive tract healthy. I was hoping the bottle would arrive and more info would be on the label and provide somethings that I could verify as to the quality. More info is below, but the bottomline is I couldn't figure out who actually manufactures the supplement (the bottle just states "manufactured for...", but at least it does stated "Made in USA", which is a positive. No supplements are regulated by the FDA, but there are several certifications available, including: National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the Natural Products Association (NPA). I looked it up but was unable to confirm that this supplement is certified by any of the three major certifications. The bottle, as shown in the photos, does states it's manufactured in an "FDA registered facility". What does this mean in practice? It does show that the supplement is manufactured in a registered facility and not some back room of someone's home or business. This is a good start and a positive finding. So far looking pretty good. BOTTOM LINE: Since this isn't a "certified" product (3 major ones listed above) and there is no info on who really makes this product, I think it is what it is on the bottle itself and the distributors website. A product made in the USA, at an FDA registered facility and I'd hope that the ingredients are what they state on the label. Only testing can show this and no reviewer here can do that. So it's a matter of trust. STAR RATING: 3 stars. 1 for label compliance, 1 for FDA facility, 1 for being straightforward on the label and 1 for being made in the USA. The last star (5th) is reserved for a highly effective product which can take months to see an effect with supplements. Time will tell how well this probiotic performs, but I expect good things. This is what I know/believe about Acidophilus. Acidophilus or Lactobacillus Acidophilus in Acidophilus Probiotic is listed as the primary ingredient. Lactobacillus Acidophilus supports gut health by increasing the amounts of healthy bacteria in the intestines, which has a great many benefits. Better gut health means better absorption of essential minerals and vitamins from the food you eat. Six other ingredients in this Probiotic are also good for developing better gut health. Dicalcium Phosphate is a calcium boost that helps to make stronger bones and teeth stronger. Microcrystalline Cellulose has something to do with better cholesterol levels. Stearic Acid is good for heart health. Croscarmellose Sodium is another cholesterol leveler and blood sugar level regulator. Magnesium Stearate? I am not sure about Stearate, but as I understand it Magnesium is good for blood pressure, mood, muscle tension, as well as blood sugar management. Having a sensitive intestine and not liking probiotic food very much, I always do monthly cycles with different probiotics. This one in particular doesn't give me any side or weird effects (constipation, gas, etc.) and seems to work just fine. I like that these tablets are so small and are easy to get down. It came well sealed and had no bad smells or taste when I opened the bottle. I haven't noticed any bad side effects, either. I really like having these probiotics in tablet form, they are much easier to swallow. Slightly chalky taste though. I've taken acidophilus before and although it isn't ground breaking, it does seem like my body runs as a slightly better oiled machine when I am taking it.
