Description

Thousands of American soldiers and civil servants have lost their lives in the War on Terror. Innocent citizens of many nations, including Americans killed on 9/11, have also paid the ultimate price. While the US government claims to stand against terror, this same government refuses to acknowledge its role in creating what has become a deadly international quagmire. Visas for al-Qaeda: CIA Handouts That Rocked the World sets the record straight by laying the blame on high-ranking US government officials. During the 1980s, the CIA recruited and trained Muslim operatives to fight the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Later, the CIA would move those operatives from Afghanistan to the Balkans, and then to Iraq, Libya, and Syria, traveling on illegal US visas. These US-backed and trained fighters would morph into an organization that is synonymous with jihadist terrorism: al-Qaeda.J. Michael Springmann, a former US diplomat, names individuals and organizations that deny culpability. He analyzes the effects of a nebulous war on the US economy and infrastructure. After thirteen bloody years, Springmann exposes hypocrisy and deceit wrapped in a sullied flag of patriotism and honor. Read more

  • The Truth of How Our Government Operates Overseas
I'm actually only still reading this exceptionally interesting book. I will need to read it again since it is quite involved and detailed -- yet, credible -- breathtakingly so. Once I get around to completing my thoughts on what Mr. Springmann has written, I'll most likely compose another review. But, for now my suggestion is that people definitely get a copy of this book and read it with an open mind. The beginning of the book is a bit choppy and a little disorganized, but once you really get into the major contents, the information about how our government operates around the world is quite stunning. I don't get the impression that Mr. Springmann has embellished the facts, but provided them in a very straightforward way. He is very brave, yet, truly patriotic, in revealing this information that most people would never have the opportunity to know. ... show more

  • A Must Read Book
"It was the best book I have read in many years." This comment was made by the former Inspector General of the Jordanian armed forces, and he is an avid reader. I offered him the book during my recent visit to Jordan after I read it and found that it is a great book every politician, diplomat, statesman and any person involved in intelligence in the United States and the Middle East should not miss reading it. The author has successfully shed light on how we advertently or inadvertently sow the seeds of radicalism which eventually grow into terrorism. ... show more

  • Recommended for those with a Deep Attachment to what US Foreign Policy Could Be but Isn’t
The book starts slowly with the author’s anecdotes of his deliberately dysfunctional State Department station in Jeddah. The author presents valid arguments of how his stonewalled inquiries led to weaker evidence to support the primary assertions in keeping with the book title. However, the author presents an intriguing, well-organized circumstantial case for what he appropriately calls the Arab-Afghan Legion. His reveals regarding corruption and official disinformation narratives are compelling as well. I was not looking for the author’s extensive opinionated narratives concerning what is wrong with US foreign policy. However, I can say that his political opinions are patently non-biased. This book has ample opinionated gems that will make most skeptics notice the totality of the author’s work. For example, from page 240 (Kindle version): “American politicians in their ignorance and American voters in their ignorance have not only destroyed major portions of the world and the peoples therein, they have cost the United States its ability to accomplish any goal without the use of force.” ... show more

A very good analysis on a topic that is every day up front in the media. The author's views have of course the value of the insider. How you can refute that? Anyway, largely is corroborated by media outlets and investigative reporters, and those who really care and know about the Middle East. Very sad everything, and leaves you with a sense of strong hopelessness. Fortunately the author didn't take all facts of the US interference in Latin American, which resembles so much to the war on terror in the Middle East. Lucky them, they didn't have the complexity that the ME has in regard to ethnic classes and religions and managed to turn the wheels of the US war machine. ... show more

Outstanding. Adds nicely on my book The Revenge of the Prophet: How Clinton and his Predecessors Empowered Radical Islam. Every American should read it and in particular those in the media

  • U.S. destabilizing the Middle East.
Excellent book for showing how U.S. politicians and the CIA engaging in corrupt covert operations destabilized the Middle East and brought world-affecting tragedies to the present interim stage, with worse to follow.

I always appreciate an insider’s perspective and am therefore grateful that the author decided to share his story. I found Visas for Al Qaeda to be one more piece in the corrupt U.S. puzzle. The author lures you in with his personal experiences in the State Department and later outlines and expounds upon the implications of the agenda he discovered. It’s required reading for anyone trying to come to terms with current geo-politics. ... show more

This book will open your eyes, astound you and shock you. Perhaps nothing he mentions can be proven but J Michael Springmann does impeccable research. His conclusions are all logical. If you would like to get a peek at how foreign policy is really conducted this book is a must read. Highly recommend it. ... show more
