  • Insightful and practical ideas for how to change the world
Format: Hardcover
This is a great resource for anyone interested in how specifically we make changes in the world. Finally, all the major tactics are captured in one very practical book. This book describes the strategies that have been honed throughout the centuries, from business, math, military, social movements to help you think about how to apply them to today's problems. The graphics and images are great and well-designed, as well as useful quotes throughout. Definitely something to come back to again and again. I liked that the book included specific examples for each of the tools -- like how a simple design change of a dip in the corner curb (from street level to sidewalk), enabled not only wheelchairs but also strollers to move around, improving lives and dignity. Beautiful, readable, and very useful book -- for changemakers and anyone who wants to be one. ... show more

  • Practical, useful, timely advice for anyone trying to make a difference
Format: Hardcover
I enjoyed this book a lot. The author describes nine "tools" ranging from mathematical modeling to behavioral science to story telling that all matter in influencing the direction of world events. It's an all-of-the-above kind of approach that cuts through a lot of the useless bickering that can happen between different institutions. I came away with a clearer sense of the world of options out there for me to make a difference in my work. But what I appreciated most was that it was specific enough to be useful and actionable. ... show more

The exceptional social impact leaders approach their mission with the spirit and equanimity of craftspeople; they never stop working on their craft. Those skills need to be honed over time. This book is designed as a book to come back to again and again. It's a gift for those who want to make lasting impact. ... show more

  • Practical and thought provoking
Format: Hardcover
A few thoughts about this book. First, it is beautifully designed, and well organized. This isn’t trivial; a book like this likely to be used as a reference after one reads it, and the visual and conceptual design makes doing so much easier. The author draws on his experiences playing different roles in the social sector (operator, funder, consultant, and others) to provide a practical guide that is suitable for a newbie and rich enough for nonprofit veterans. So helpful! ... show more
