  • TIP FOR CAT OWNERS!!!
Size: Large
Most cats won't be instinctively be interested in this because it doesn't resemble what they would normally scratch on at all. I discovered you can entice them by putting thin sisal cloth (my cat recognizes that as a scratching material since all of his scratching post use the sturdy woven sisal rope) over the sandpaper material either by stapling or hot glueing it. And as they scratch through the cloth their nails come in contact with the sandpaper material and gradually work down. There are many places online that sale sisal cloth castoffs by the foot and some will do custom sizes of cloth if needed. Just a warning I would not make this your cats permanent cat scratcher because the sandpaper can get to the quick of your cats nails if used to often and hurt them. What I've been doing is breaking out this homemade cat scratcher when the nails start drawing blood then putting it away when they have blunted abit so my cat can return to his normal non-abrasive cat scratching post (I hide his normal cat scratching post so he has to use the homemade one then swap them out has needed) ... show more

  • Great Scratch Pad
Size: Medium
I have been using this on my dog whose claws are like daggers after clipping them. (I use it more as a filing after clipping). I love that it included a "How to Train" the dog to use it. It's also great that there are different angles. The only thing I wish is that the bottom was a bit more sticky as on hardwood it tends to slide so I have to hold it or use on carpet. ... show more

  • THANK YOU!!
Size: Medium
Our local dog trainers, dog groomers, pet supply retailers and vet all refused to trim his nails because he was so difficult. The vet suggested this as a last resort. After some patience and work, my dog is happy to use this and it works on his front nails. We are able to clip his back nails thankfully. I hold it down with my feet to keep it steady, no big deal. THANK YOU AGAIN as we did not know what else to do! ... show more

  • Just make your own using a board and sandpaper
Size: Medium
It is a great idea - my dog picked it up in one session, we're fine tuning the command now within a couple of days, and her nails are already looking shorter. However, if you have a dog with any real energy, the hinges won't hold, and good luck with having it stand up without you holding it. After the screws on the hinges came out two or three times and I pinched my fingers badly trying to hold it up myself, I gave up and dismantled the whole thing. Now I have a piece of board with sandpaper stuck to it. Quite costly at $57. But, I tied a strap to the back, and can hold it securely myself with one hand, while giving treats to the dog with the other for each good series of scratches. The reality is that I could have made this for a few bucks and saved a lot of hassle. If you understand shaping a dog's behavior, teaching the front paws is very easy. I haven't started on the back paws yet, this will be more challenging, but with time, my dog will get it. But, I have experience with training behaviors. I'm not sure how easy it would be to train a dog to do back paws if you haven't that experience. As for the item - if you have a small dog with little enthusiasm for the game of scratching, it might hold up and work for you. Otherwise, I'd go to the hardware store and buy a piece of wood and sandpaper. I don't know why I ever thought that a bigger dog (Labrador retriever) would be able to scratch at something so flimsy and not collapse it every time. I'd recommend going for the idea and making your own solution, but saving your dollars on this actual item. ... show more

  • Review part 2!
Size: Medium
The media could not be loaded. This is the video after one week of training her on the scratch board….. So I bought this because my girl hates getting her nails clipped and her nails have gotten so long that while playing she can break skin. I’ve tried grinders and clippers but she always gives so much resistance. So here’s how I got this device to work. 1st of all..your dog needs to know how to “shake”. I used training treats as reward and held the board between my legs at an angle with a blanket to cover my legs from scratches. I then prompted her to shake, putting my hand over the board then pulling away when she raised her paw. This allowed her to scratch the board on her own with a command she knew. I then would praise her. I did this regularly for about 3-5 different sessions on different days as seen in the first video. Progression is key. I then put treats under the board and laid it flat on the ground while holding it steady with my feet so she couldn’t push it with her nose. I then used the same prompt while giving praise every time her paw touched the board. With time and practice, she is now scratching the board on her own from so much association of scratching the board with a treat. I would break up each small training treat into 3 smaller pieces. The first 3-5 sessions I would make her shake at least 10-20 times per paw. When she lost interest I put the board down and came back to it after 10-15 min. ... show more

  • Great idea but too flimsy for the price
Size: Large
On the plus side, three out of our four 55-85 lb dogs figured it out within minutes and the forth got it the next day. It's already making a noticeable difference in nail length with much less frustration than grinding / clipping. On the down side, the flimsy wooden frame broke the first day. We reinforced ours with some 2x6 scraps and are back in business. I'd recommend just building your own for anyone with the time and even half the ability to do so. Update: After only three sessions (for all four of our dogs), the sandpaper is already wearing through, developing holes and needing replacement. ... show more

  • Training
Size: Medium
Seems to be a very sufficient way to trim your dogs nails however training to get them to use it was very difficult for us

He won’t use it. I have to hold his paws and do it myself🫤
