I hate the wasted space above my head in a garage. The workshop part of my garage has 12 ft ceilings for my car lift. It means there is a lot of space for storage that can store tools and other items. Over the years I've started using pulleys to store stuff overhead. Not really heavy stuff, just things that I don't use often and don't want to dedicate shelf space to, which is where this type of "wire rope" comes in really, really handy. I started out, years ago, using actual rope but that doesn't work. The rope will deform in the pulley, especially if left hanging for a long time, which creates points where it snags in the pulley. Then I started using braided steel wire but it's murder on your hands when you're raising and lowering things. This is the perfect solution. It doesn't deform, it doesn't hurt your hands, you cut it to your exact needs and put loop ends on it. Mount your pulley to a rafter and a hook on the wall to hold the wire when it's in the raised position. Suddenly your ceiling is a usable storage space! This particular wire is well made. The coating seems durable and it's remarkably thin given it's weight rating (which I won't be anywhere near). Really useful to have around for other projects as well. ... show more

Nice roll of smooth coated black cable. I'm always hanging something. Most recently it was some cable for a permanent attachment point for tarps to close in my shop for winter. I have plenty of projects in store for this. I have a long run of coax going up from an tall TV antenna by my shop over to my house. This cable will make great support. I'm also using some of it to partition off some areas in my upstairs enclosed shop and my downstairs open air shop to reduce heating and cooling needs where I don't always need it. Used to tighten up tarp covering original cover on one of those portable garages. Stong enough to pull tight with cable turnbuckles. Have plenty left over. Coating is a nice addition.

    • Easy to use - hanging string lights, standard crimping

The hardest part about using this, was that I'm not tall enough to hang the wire. lol. Had my husband find the crimping tool (electricians) and show me how to create the looped ends. Easy. Like SUPER easy. The coating seems to be of uniform thickness, it's nice and smooth. The wire is flexible enough to use for hanging the string lights - and sturdy enough to take some tension as well. The crimper ends are robust, and do NOT release/fail when I tug full strength on the line. I think this wire could also be used for rose trellising, even bramble berry trellising. It's strong enough. The 100' roll was more than enough to hang my 2 sets of lights between poles on my patio. String lights are best NOT hung by their electrical cords, but instead using a wire like this. I like the coating it will help keep the wire strong in the outdoor weather: especially as we are near the ocean so uncoated 304 will degrade/rust over time. Good product, does the job. This vinyl coated wire rope is strong and very easy to use. We’ve used it to strengthen and tighten the top of our horse fence and it’s held up really well. It’s also done a great job at holding up string lights inside and outside our pool house. It’s truly a great value for the price!

I've used this for a number of project, and even brought it close to it's breaking point (according to the description). The crimps are handy to have, saving me a trip to the store. On some of the heavier jobs I double up on them. If I used the cable with a lot of weight the crimps would slip a little on the plastic coating of the cable.
