  • Outstanding value for the money
I really didn't expect much from this tool given the extremely low price, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be an excellent value for the money. I work pure copper plate and fine silver sheet up to 18 gauge in my jewelry studio. This cuts these materials without hurting my hand or damaging the tool. Shearing plate with this tool is so much faster than sawing it with the jeweler's saw! Just understand that a shear slightly curls the edge and leaves a bur, so expect to do a little straightening and filing after the cut... ... show more

  • Greatest thin metal shears ever
I had been stumbling along with with standard tin snips until I came across this one. It is fantastic for accurate cut's with thin metal that most modelers, like myself, need to have in our tool kits.

  • Compact little shears for your camping/hiking bag.
I bought these to add to to my camping hiking bag. I decided to start carrying a few rolled up sheets of aluminum from Coke cans in my backpack for making points, fishing hooks, fasteners, tools, or whatever else I can think off, and these work for my needs, and they are compact. Just start a cut with your knife near the top and bottom of a Coke can, use these to cleanly cut the top an bottom off, then just cut the can vertically. Do this to a few cans, then roll them up and put a rubber band or a zip tie around them, and throw them in your bag. When you need something that can be fabricated out of the aluminum, grab a sheet and these shears, and cleanly and precisely cut whatever you need out of the material. Even if you don't carry sheets of aluminum, you may find a can on the trail and decide to recycle it this way. Not sure how useful they are with thicker metals, but they suit my purpose. ... show more

  • A must have for anyone crafting with metal!
I love these shears. My jewelry making friends have all bought them after using mine. They are incredibly precise when doing tiny detail work with metal. They cut through it like butter, though I haven't tried them on thick sheets of metal yet. They are still sharp after years of use.

  • Pretty heavy duty for the price! Add a little wd40 before use and good to go!
Amazing shears for the price! Cuts through my 22g Argentium sheet pretty nicely. Only thing I would recommend adding oil, lubricant, or wd 40 like I did before using especially to the joint that gives it its tension as it was a bit scratchy and rough sounding upon opening. Otherwise so far so good. Tougher shears than expected and makes nice even cuts. Cant go wrong for that price! ... show more

  • Great for cutting lighter gauge metals
This works fantastic on my thinner/lighter gauge or soft metals- much better than my metal saw does. However, the biggest issue with metal shears is that you can only cut so far into the metal before you have to start bending it just to reach. So these are great if you are, for example, cutting rough shapes (such as metal stamping blanks) but it is a struggle if you need to do something like cut a straight strip off a larger piece of metal. A feature I like is the handle, the grip coating is solid and does not make your hand ache the way other models do. It also has an easy swing catch on the bottom to keep the shears closed. They are very easy to sharpen as well. However, they are not intended to replace a jeweler's saw so for the purpose that they are intended to serve, they get five stars from me. Tim Holtz/Vintaj products almost always impress me, it is a brand that truly lives up to the hype. ... show more

  • ... you are only ever cutting small pieces these are great. They cut through metal no problem
If you are only ever cutting small pieces these are great. They cut through metal no problem, plenty of leverage for softer metals. If you have to do longer pieces (10"+) you will notice it is only good at first for rough cuts. You will also need to deburr and file the edge slightly. Not the cleanest of cuts but easy to use. Highly recommended if you are doing small jewelry or only need to cut small and thin sheets of metal. Any cuts longer than 6 or so inches might make you want to consider a saw or a larger set of shears and cleanup with these shears after the initial cut. ... show more
