  • Does everything I need it to, and then some.
I will preface this by saying I'm not a gamer, so I cannot speak to this monitor's suitability as a good gaming monitor. I mainly wanted something with good adjustability, a low blue-light option, and the ability to lower the brightness level to somewhere below blinding. It was easy to assemble, and easy to hook up to my computer (although it did not come with an HDMI cable, I had one lying around, so I decided to go that route). The image is crisp and clear. The two best things IMO are the brightness control which, unlike my last monitor, has a huge range of settings. It's bright enough to use in a high-level light setting, but best of all, I can dim it down far enough to not leave after-images on my retinas. The second great thing is its adjustability, especially the tilt mode. I like the monitor to sit low (I wear progressive lenses, so if the monitor it too high, I have to tip my head back to read it), and the height adjustment gives me that. I also like to be able to tilt the screen a bit forward from vertical, to keep overhead glare off the screen. The side-to-side rotation is not huge, but enough to turn it slightly to show to someone else in the room if needed. However, the monitor loses no brightness or readability if you are not looking at it straight on. The portrait option is way cool, although I doubt I will use it much as this is for my personal use, not for work. If I could get my employer to purchase two of these for my office setup, it would be pretty awesome to have one in landscape mode for research, maps, etc., while the other was in portrait mode for documents. The external controls are easy to use, once you get the hang of them (lights on the front, tactile buttons along the bottom just below the lights). The blue-light setting is a software control (in Windows 10 Settings) and is also easy to switch back and forth. The foot takes up relatively little space on the desktop, and the unit is well-balanced. I tend to use my personal computer most in the evenings, so having the low blue-light option is really nice. Because the room I use it in is not brightly lit, I tend to leave that mode on all the time, and have no trouble reading anything. The colors may be warmer than true colors, but I don't find that to be a detriment. All around good monitor, and I can heartily recommend for home or office use, especially at the price point. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this one. ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised!
I bought this monitor since I now have to WFH like everyone else :D I didn’t want to go too crazy on the price but I wanted something a good size. This monitor checked all the boxes for me. The only thing I don’t like is that all the screen prompts are in Chinese and nothing in the instructions says how to turn that off. Luckily it’s plug n play so it’s not really an issue though I wish I could change it. The desk in the photo was also purchased on Amazon. I love my cute little set up. 10/10 would recommend. ... show more

  • A Great Budget Monitor w/ A Great Stand!
Throughout this review I will be comparing ViewSonic’s VS2412-H directly to the HP VH240a a lot because they are both similarly priced, 1080p, ergonomic/adjustable stand, IPS monitors. PROS: - The Stand: the adjustable ergonomic stand allows you to adjust the monitor up and down, tilt it back by 30°, swivel it left and right, and pivot it by 90° to the right to work vertically in portrait mode. - Good Contrast: the VS2412-H has a 50,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR) (measure for videos) and an industry standard 1000:1 static contrast ratio (measure for non-moving images). Even though the DCR is a non-standardized measurement, I can definitely tell a difference in image quality while playing dark games such as Resident Evil 7 on this monitor compared to the similarly priced HP VH240a which has a DCR rated at 5-10,000,000:1 and is noticeably subpar. Going between super dark, murky areas to super bright light sources is a much better experience on ViewSonic’s monitor compared the HP. - Vibrant Colors: Unfortunately, ViewSonic does not provide the sRGB, Adobe RGB, NTSC, or DCI-P3 color gamut ranges for this monitor, but while comparing it side-by-side to my 4k HDR10 display and my 108% NTSC monitor, this VS2412-H has really strong color reproduction and accuracy compared to those two with only minor variations in the vibrancy of certain tones (which may be entirely due to the difference in my calibrations moreso than a limitation on this monitor itself). It easily blows the HP VH240a out of the water by comparison whose colors were a lot less accurate and vibrant (again, this could be entirely due to the particular unit I have and/or my calibrations of that monitor, but I do feel that the comparisons are still worth noting as they do have some merit). - Pure Whites: the white color temperature can be fairly neutral to get those pure whites or the RGB can be adjusted to make it warmer or cooler to your liking. - Overall Image Quality: Text appears sharp and smooth both up close and from far away at the default sharpness level (set to 50) compared to the more jagged text when displayed on HP’s monitor (which does not give you granular control, but does have 7 preset levels to choose from). When calibrated properly, photos can look absolutely amazing on this monitor and upscaled low res images appear to be less jagged compared to viewing the same images on the HP VH240a. Looking at images between these two monitors and comparing them both against my 4k HDR10 display, this ViewSonic easily punches in a lot closer to that 4k display while my HP unit was completely subpar with noticeably less vibrant and less accurate colors despite trying my best to calibrate it to a similar output. Also, when scrolling through documents and webpages, this ViewSonic monitor handles ghosting (motion blur) much better than the HP VH240a. Scrolling looks pretty smooth on here while the ghosting was very apparent with my HP unit. - The Menu: the OSD (On Screen Display) options give full granular control over the color temperature, RGB color space, blue light filter, image sharpness, the Dynamic Contrast Ratio, and black stabilization level settings while also offering a full vs. limited range adjustment option for the color gamut - Viewing Angles: the vertical viewing angles (top-down and bottom-up) are consistent with viewing the screen head on which is perfect when using this monitor in portrait orientation. For comparison, the HP VH240a and the Acer SB220Q both get noticeably dimmer when viewing the screen from these angles despite both being IPS monitors too. - has AMD FreeSync support CONS: - Despite its claim of being able to pivot the display both left and right by 90° (according to its spec sheet), you cannot pivot it to the left, only to the right! - The Power button has dual function as a menu control button in the OSD - For some reason some of the adjustment options in the ‘Manual Image Adjust’ OSD menu (such as blue light filter, black stabilization, etc.) are disabled depending on which Viewing Mode you have set (e.g. Standard mode vs. Gaming mode). - The Color Adjustment options don’t allow you to take full control of the color output with additional options such as RGB and CMY gains, bias, hues, saturation levels or even gamma control like in the much cheaper $90 Acer SB220Q bi. - Has a slightly thicker 11 mm frame/bezels which is an outdated design choice for a 2019 monitor (this is a super nitpicky point that doesn’t really detract from the overall weighting of my final rating verdict since it is known upfront from the product pictures that this monitor does not sport a frameless design) - The lowest you can adjust the screen when in a horizontal position is at 4” inches from the desk to the bottom of the display panel. In comparison, the HP VH240a’s stand lets you lower the screen to 3” inches. Overall, if you’re looking for a nice quality budget monitor to look at spreadsheets, word documents, do some internet browsing, or some casual gaming, or even some light (non-professional) photo editing, then this is a great choice and I would highly recommend it for those tasks. If you are a competitive gamer, photographer, professional editor, or a content creator then you’ll obviously need to invest in a higher spec monitor. Furthermore, at least compared to the unit I got, I would say that this ViewSonic VS2412-H is easily superior to the HP VH240a in several ways: better image quality, slightly better adjustable stand, higher refresh rate, and more granular adjustment options in the OSD menus. For the extra $5 at the time of this review, it’s an absolute no brainer for me. ... show more

  • Great Value for the Money
I like the picture quality and the adjustable stand. You can raise the monitor screen about 9.5" off my desktop so the viewing level is great for me. Can also tilt the screen forward and back and rotate it from landscape to letter perspective. Be aware that it only comes with a VGA cable in the box, but to get audio via the monitor's output jack you need to use an HDMI cable. Couldn't get any sound prior to doing that so lucky I had an HDMI cable in my collection. Also they don't include any instructions about that so picked that tid-bit up from another reviewer, thank you! My main complaint is the monitor settings for brightness/contrast, volume etc. is controlled by 4 buttons on the bottom of the screen. Awkward to work with but once set up your not likely to have to deal with it again. It's only day one but everything working fine so far. Keep in mind though it's clearly a lightweight built product, which should be fine for my home office. ... show more
