  • this is a great learning tool
This is a very in-depth review. Look no further. I bought this item about six months back - was extremely eager to learn new shooting techniques so when I heard of the weighted camera stabilizer, I hopped on the study train and did as much homework as I could before finally settling on this, the Vidpro SB-10. Now for what it is, I want to say upfront that it's definitely worth the purchase. Whether you've been using stabilizers for a while or you're new to the whole idea, this is a great learning tool. I want to also say before anything else that a device like this takes a lot of time and patience to 'master'. One cannot buy this and understand all aspects of how to get your desired 'perfect' shot in one day. There is a ton of trial and error involved, mounds of frustration, and even the urge to return it when you can't get the hang of it. Don't give in to your mind! You must crawl before you walk and walk before you run. With that being said... First off, the grip it comes with is very comfortable to hold with one hand, which also aides in making it easy to twist and turn the stabilizer as you walk and move. It comes with three different weights to counter-balance your camera. Pay attention to the weight of your camera and your lens. You will need a lens that has a wider angle than a standard lens so that camera shake is less noticeable. Pairing this device with a 35mm or even a 24mm is not going to work. The padding which sits between the base of the camera and the rig looks great when you first get it, but be aware that eventually, it is going to peel off. When it does, you will realize somewhere between material type and costs of creation, they cheaped out in that area. Luckily, anyone can go to Lowe's or Home Depot or any hardware store and pick up a cheap, better padding to go in its place. My gripe about this product isn't even the padding that comes off. Here's what gets to me: They have a double-sided threaded screw with a nut that has a grip on it, so you can screw the camera onto the rig. This is very similar to your typical Go Pro or cell phone tripod without a plate and a manual one-size-fits-all screw. The camera attaches by tightening the nut until the threaded end is securely into the bottom of the camera and the camera is snug in place. Well, the nut you twist to tighten (at least on mine) was not glued or adhered in any way to the threaded screw. So, when you attempt to remove the camera from the rig by twisting this nut and loosening the tightness, the nut will screw off and leave the threaded screw in the camera's base. It is quite annoying and especially on a hot set when things must be done with speed. I keep a very small pair of pliers on hand for this situation, which presents itself almost every time when I'm using it. All in all, great product but it has its very unique flaws. Compared to some of the other more expensive stabilizers, this one is going to give you that exact same cinema quality 'flyby' look that you desire. I would even buy this again knowing of the problems that come with it because I know it's going to do what I want it to do. ... show more

  • Could work
Kind of hard to adjust the weights just right and feel they would need to be adjusted frequently depending on the shot, position, angle, etc. A little difficult to balance and center just right without it tilting or angling to the side.

  • Pretty decent Gimbal, not great for lighter smartphones
It takes some time to setup, I recommend finding some tutorials on Youtube otherwise you may waste a lot of time trying to do it yourself as there is no manual with it. But once you can balance it, it works quite well. Just a note, I tried to use a Samsung s4 on it, and the phone was too light for it, so rather dont buy it for use with smart phones unless you have the latest phones. The delivery process was great, tracking all the way to south africa. No complaints. ... show more

  • It worked pretty well but was hard to get the stable point
Mounted a Canon 7D with a Tamron 17-50mm. It worked pretty well but was hard to get the stable point. Adjustments are very sensitive and does not lock in very well. The gimbal/ball joint's range of movement is very limited so the handle would always move the camera unintentionally. I gave it a 3 for the price, otherwise it would be a 2 star. ... show more

  • A must have for any filmmaker!
I film documentaries and this has proven itself time and time again! It's light weight and easy to maneuver. Which is a must in my line of work. I am going to be ordering a few more of these soon.

  • I'm pretty happy. For the money
No instructions and two screws fell out onto the floor when I opened the package. But once I found them and figured out where they went, then figured out how the thing worked, I'm pretty happy. For the money, it's fine.

  • CAN YOU DIG IT!
It's not a Wizard but for the price it is an outstanding product. I would most definitely tell both beginners and pros that this item is a more than worth while product.

  • Good for the price and small cameras
(Good) For the price, this steady cam device works satisfactory for what it is. The construction is quite good. (Bad) Hard to find balance with my dslr. I had try all the settings, but still if i push the cam forward or run it lost the balance.
